Anyone ever read the novel "Perfume"?

It's about this young apprentice in 1700's France with an amazing sense of smell, but he has no scent of his own. He learns the art of creating perfumes and there is also a murder mystery in there I think. Dunno.. I'm only halfway through. It's OK, but kinda un-interesting to read about smells. Heh.

Also, it was the book that inspired the Nirvana song, "Scentless Apprentice".

Like most babies smell like butter
His smell smelled like no other
He was born scentless and senseless
He was born a scentless apprentice

Go away - get away, get a-way

Every wet nurse refused to feed him
Electrolytes smell like semen
I promise not to sell your perfumed secrets
There are countless formulas for pressing flowers

Go away - get away, get a-way

I lie in the soil and fertilize mushrooms
Leaking out gas fumes are made into perfume
You can't fire me because I quit!
Throw me in the fire and I won't throw a fit

Go away - get away, get away, get away, get away, get away, get a-way

Suskind. It's an excellent read. I sometimes refer to tough spots in life as my 'tick phase.'
