Forbes article: How to duck cell phone taxes (http://www.forbes.com/technology/2005/06/06/cz_sw_0606cellphone.html)
Basically... you just switch to paperless billing (e-billing), then change your home billing address to someplace like Nevada (cell tax: 6.62%). Now you would pay their rate instead of much higher Illinois rate (cell tax: 21.05%).
Legal? Ethical? I'm just the messenger. :D
yeah, but then wouldn't they think you were 'roaming' all the time? you'd get killed on roaming fees.
unless you have a nationwide access plan, at which point you're probably paying more than you'd be saving in taxes...

Well, no. With Sprint as long as I'm standing inside their coverage network (http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/coverage/NatwideNetwk.jsp) when I make a call, which covers all major cities & suburbs, I'm not charged roaming rates. It also doesn't matter where I'm calling to in the US, the cost is the same. Pretty sure Verizon & Xcingular are the same.
The only way I'd get hit w/ roaming is if I'm standing in the middle of nowhere trying to make a call.
(Edit: I guess that means I *do* have nationwide access.. but my bill is only $35/mo though. Do you have to pay long distance & stuff?)

If you really wanna save some cash on your cell phone, get 3 friends together and do a family package. . it will come out to about 30 - 40$ per person for unlimited talking . . you just gotta find people you can trust . .
