That's crazy.

I thought the only way you could die from playing video games is after you've been beaten to death for preferring said games to sex with your significant other. :p

Matty's Surgeon General's Warning:

WARNING: Do not play your video for 50 fucking hours, shitslice. You'll fucking have a heart attack. Your mother will wonder where the fuck you are for two days, and when she finds out you're dead she'll cry. Is that what you want? You want your mother to cry, you fucking pervert? When you get the twitches, STOP. Unless you can handle it, in which case, play through it. (If you don't know whether you can handle it or not, you can't handle it.)

This shit is pretty crazy:

"While Chinese gamers have protested their government’s plan to limit online gaming to three-hour intervals starting next year, this most recent tragedy helps make the case for some kind of regulation."

A little drastic, but yeah... the developers of MMORPG's should come up with a creative way to discourage people from playing over 24 hours straight. I don't think they are completely blameless here, they just chose not to acknowledge the health risks that have been evident since EverQuest came out. I'm sure these types of deaths will only become more common as games become more involved, but it likely will take a few lawsuits or sweeping government policy before the developers do something to curb excessive gaming addiction.

I don't get it... what is so life threatening about playing a game for a day? Admittedly, I'm a bit behind on the whole video game thing... being po', I don't usually get a system until it's been out for a couple years and I don't buy games until they drop below the $30 range.. but geez... is it impossible to eat a sandwich while you're playing?

someone clue me in..

Eh. Don't agree the "need to come up with a creative way to discourage people from playing for over 24 hours straight". I think these fauckers deserve a Darwin award, and we should all be thankful that they no longer have the ability to procreate.

I played Warcraft III straight through, w/o substantial breaks, when I got it back in 02-03 (not sure how long it took.... was in excess of a day because I started on NYE and ended pushing Jan 2nd), and somehow I managed to remember to consume beer and eat pizza during my blissful gamefest.

There are tons of things you could do for 24 hours that just might kill you (exercising, reading, eating, beating off...).... and I'd have to think playing video games has to be fairly low on the scale o' riskiness where death is concerned.
