View Full Version : The Island
You have lung cancer. You also have a clone made for the specific purpose of your survival. Would you sacrifice your clone for your survival?
So SQ & I just watched this movie. It brings up a lot of interesting points.
The first & foremost being my poll question.
I recently posted a topic about Brave New World which garnered a lot of interesting responses. This topic is similar. In the afforementioned topic I took the position of "give me drugs & conditioning & I would be happy". I stand by this point. If I had enough money to buy a clone to prolong my survival, I would. Screw the clone. That is it's whole purpose, right?
This movie was pretty good (from a destruction stand point). One problem that I had was : the predictability factor. I am so tired of Hollywood movies constantly sticking with the tried & true formula. I mean there was never a doubt in my mind that the heroes would survive. It is just old hat at this point. Where is the suspense?
I guess this is multiple topics wrapped into one, but what do you think?
Cloning & the boredom that is Hollywood?

The clone would just share your DNA. It wouldn't have the same personality. Personality is driven by life experiences.
I am sure most twins don't think of their siblings as spare body parts.
The clone, since it has a different personality, may even be a better and cooler you.
Maybe it would want to harvest you for parts.

that's why you should keep the clone on ice until they're ready to fulfill the primary function for their existence, which is to replace your failing body parts.
