Haven't seen a thread on this gent yet. Interesting articles in the paper this weekend on how McCain is considered one of the frontrunners for the 2008 Presidential election.

Though I usually vote with a Democratic bias, from what I know about McCain, I think I could actually see myself put a check next to his name, even if he is from the GOP.

I think if McCain gets the Rep nod, and Hilary gets the Democ nod, I think it'd be a tough sell to get Hilary (assuming she gets to run on the ticket -- Gore seems to be fairly vocal lately) in office.

With all the shite going on in Washington lately and the black mark its leaving (in my opinion) on the Rep party, seems like they might just nominate a moderate in 2008, rather than a bible beater.

One glaring problem.... McCain is an old faucker. I would have to think that 72 in 2008 is "younger" than 72 in 1981 (with medical advances and what-not over the past 25 years), but old is still old.

I know next to nuthin' about politics, but found this interesting when I read it. How acout some commentary from peeps that keep a closer eye on things than I do.

Discussion!

I think McCain and Clinton are actually going to have serious problems getting elected. I love McCain and would gladly do what ever I could to help him get elected. The problem is, he will have a real hard time getting the Republican Nomination. He is Pro-Choice, Pro-Election Reform, Pro-Enviornment, and has always neglected the Religious Right part of the Republican party. On a list of Candidates that the Republican Party would like to have the nomination, McCain is very low on the list. That is why he has never had any success the previous times he has tried to get the nomination. If somehow he could get the nomination, I think it would be a slam dunk that he would win. Any Republican who can carry California is a lock for the Presidency.

Clinton, on the other hand, has the exact opposite problem. I don't think she would have any problems getting the nomination, but she will never be able to win the national election. She would win New England, Illinois, Minnesota, and the Pacific Northwest, but she would not win a single southern or plains state. I don't think she would even win Arkansas. In order for a Dem to win the election they are going to have to find somebody who can take some of the Red States away from the Republican Party. I just don't think Hiliary is that person. Who knows though, still plenty of time to shake things up.
