I can't believe the Federal Highway Administration has so much money. Why are our roads such a fucking mess?
It's interesting to see this chart. I work with alot of those agencies listed within it.
I think we all know how much money is wasted on military toys.
It's also interesting to see within the Homeland Security that Emergency Response only gets 3.2 Billion. 16 Billion for Border Security. Has anyone seen this Border Security funding at work? I wonder what falls under this branch.

16 billion dollars worth?!?
Just look at that guy. He does it for satisfaction of keeping the Mexicans out. Volunteers don't get paid.

Here's what the Department of Homeland Security says about it. FY'06
(And be sure to check out the "Revolutionizing the Borders" bullet)

This may all be too much reading, but whatever. When it rains, it pours. :D
Yeah the immigration mess is turning out to be a real problem. I read an article the other day on cnn.com that blew my mind. Because of how ineffective our border security is, there are a number of border towns who have organized vigilante militias who do nothing but guard the borders in their free time. Pres. Bush has really lost support among Repubs in the SouthWest because of his somewhat forgiving immigration period (illegals can stay, but have to have a job and get documentation). I know Arizona and New Mexico have both declared a state of emergency and Colorado, Nevada, Texas and California can't be too far behind. I know in Denver, when I was growing up, Denver was 20% hispanic. It is now almost 50% and Unemployment has steadly increased every year. Because this problem doesn't effect anybody East of Rockies, I don't think a majority of the country understand/care how bad of a problem this is turning into. That's another reason why I am a big supporter of John McCain. Obviously being a Senator from Arizona, he is well aware of the immigration problem. Of course the same could be said of GW Bush since he is from Texas. Unfortunately his immigration solution has had little effect except for pissing off Dems and Repubs and forcing communities to form their own militias to do what the government obviously can not.

the money is a grim situation, but as you say, it goes beyond dollars--they are just a stand in for what priority something has. just imagine what it would be like if all--or even 50%-- of the brain energy focused on making more intricate bombing and destruction systems was instead focused on the creative integration of human needs and the ecosystems of the earth. if brain energy was not used to impose human force, but rather could understand, respect, and harness the forces the world already has more clearly.
but some boys never got over burning bugs with a magnifying glass.
