I've been on this classic movie binge lately and I've been trying to rent all the ones I've never seen. So, I just got Lawrence of Arabia in the mail and was about to turn it on when I noticed... it's four hours long?! What the hell, man... didn't people believe in editing down in 1962? :drumfingers:
Anyways, there goes my Sunday afternoon. I hope it's as amazing as everyone says.
What are some other classic movies that qualify for "must see" status??

I've heard The Last Temptation of Christ with Willam DeFoe is good.
I'm all about the art flicks though, check out Institute Benjamenta....mmm The Quay Brothers rock my world.
I have also been watching more classic movies. A couple good ones I've watched recently are :
White Heat (Old school gangster movie)
Angels With Dirty Faces (Gangster)
The Petrified Forest (Drama)
I also queued up a lot of the movies off this list. I hadn't heard of a number of them.

I suggest The Wild Bunch. Tarantino ain't got shit on Peckinpah.

Yeah, on Hotfoot's note, I'd suggest another Peckinpah film, Straw Dogs. Dustin Hoffman + Peckinpah = intensity. Err... "INTENSITY."

Night of the Hunter is really good. Robert Mitchum plays a very scary creepy dude.

Also check out Kubrick's Lolita. Peter Sellers is the man.

I agree.. I'm a big fan of films from the 1940's to 1960's. The acting, directing and scripts from that period were of a caliber we just don't see anymore. Also, the Hollwood stars and starlets from that time just have a certain aura about them that make today's stars seem quite dull by comparison.
Nowadays, everyone seems to think a movie needs crazy special effects to be any good.. while the acting and script come second. :error:

You know, I've never seen The Sting, but that's another flick that seems to come up a lot in conversations. I'm adding it to my queue now! :)
Also.. I've seen Cool Hand Luke (liked it!).. what about The Great Escape?

LH,
I just noticed in Netflix, under 'Award Winners' there is a sub-heading of Time List that you can use to queue the movies off that, well, Time List.
