I recently joined Netflix & I love it. Its just so convenient to have movies delivered & watch them on your own time.

Recently, I have been having trouble with the site. The service is still fine, but the site shows movie images where your star ranking system would be (which becomes annoying pretty quickly since the movie is Just Like Heaven).
This has only recently happened, but things have been odd since day one.
I use Firefox. Do you think this is a problem on my end or Netflix' end?
Has anyone else had problems like this?

Huh, not sure what you mean by "the site shows movie images where your star ranking system would be".

I just logged in and even looked at that movie, but I've never had a problem like that (I use FF too). I think the error might be on your end, maybe update FF to the latest version or email their support team to see what's up. Weird.

Otherwise.... I agree, love my Netflix.

Ive never had those problems with netflix. I think its ingenious.
You never even have to leave the house lol. You can be a bum say BOOOO to Blockbuster. I hated blockbuster anywho. when a new movie came out everyone grabbed em by the time I got there, the selections rarely changed.
Or the new release were put out when the 15 year old staff decided it was time to put them. Only thing I miss about block buster is those tasty cake towers of rice crispy treats! lol mmmmmmm Oh wait this post was supposed to be about netflix lol.
Netflix rules, end of story. I do the 3 at a time deal so I always have new movies comin in. never watched as many movies as I have with netflix

I've been trying out this Netflix 'Friends' thing. It's kinda fun to see what other people rank movies & what they like & dislike.

Anyway, if anybody wants to share their queue & ratings info, send me an invite through Netflix. Send it to slackland007@yahoo.com.

I think its funny that after you see the friends list, they feel like they have to "explain" why certain movies are on their que. Who gives a shit? Or I should say i don't care. Some movies I'm interested in seeing maybe one time. I guarantee that your going to see a couple of romantic comedies, some scifi, comic book, action, drama, foreign, independent, educational movies in my que.

How else will we warn our friends about really bad movies. Someone has to watch them and warn the others. :D

Or recommend. I believe slam recommended that movie Election...which i thought wasn't very good. I refrain from stating what i really thought about the movie. I believe only happy thoughts can be posted on the board. (note sarcasm).

[happily adds back "The Notebook"] heh.

actually what used to happen to me on the site all the time is that i would add a movie, and then add all the recommended movies as well. so i had like 40 horror films in a row followed by 20 film noir and 20 cartoons, and so on. it got pretty monotonous [sp] and i had to rework the queue a bit to switch it up. i'm more careful now.

has anyone seen the movie Hustle and Flow? It's been sitting by my TV now for about a month, and I just don't feel like watching it. Is it any good?

I liked it. It wasn't stellar or anything, but it was enjoyable. I would give it 4/5 stars.

That "Hard Out Here For a Pimp" song is the ringer I've assigned to my boyfriend when he calls, because I think it's funny.

I've been checking out your queue & ratings, LH.
I think that we have fairly similar tastes movie-wise.

i just do it in my futile attempt to watch every movie, ever.

This is a lofty goal.
You are going to have to watch a lot of shit before you are finished.

How can you live with yourself after watching all that crap? I felt my brain was permanently damaged from that shitty shitty movie Sideways. You know the crappiest movie of all time. And it was only one super shitty movie.

(i just had to crack on that bad movie again). :angryscottishguy:

007 and I are having a discussion about rating movies.

What qualifications do you use? Enjoyment of the film, the acting, directing, the story, reoccurring themes..

We recently watched Match Point (a Woody Allen film, normally I'm not a fan). I wouldn't necessarily want to watch this film again. Should that affect the rating? Hmmmm.

But I would recommend this for others to see. I thought it was very well done.

Thoughts?

you know what's funny, i was so going to start another thread just now entitled "who the heck just suggested that i add Match Point?"

to me, it doesn't matter if a movie is well shot or well done, although that might have somewhat of an effect. for me, it's all about the feelings/emotions that the movie evokes in me while i'm watching it, be it whatever emotion (happiness, fear, longing, laughter, some sort of cerebral reaction like with the movie pi...etc etc etc and so on)

i'm pretty sure that a romantic comedy about tennis won't do this, but thanks for the recommendation

Mrjohn -

Although I probably wouldn't have sent along a suggestion [SQ], & I don't want to get caught up defending the film [it was good not great], I overall thought it was pretty decent. It had very little to do with tennis. It definitely was not a romantic comedy [I can't stand that drivel - I would call it a drama]. It also had a plot & definitely invoked emotions & questions.

Also, it had Hotty McTotty in it - albeit in a bitch-ass role.

Finally, what happened to viewing every movie ever?

Just thoughts. :)

yeah...saw that film in the theatres....it was an interesting film that didn't evoke the usual feeling of..."I've seen this before in another film." Instead, I felt that it was something slightly new and kept me interested throughout the film. I was hoping for a "Wow!" but instead I got a "Eh, Not bad."

Soul Queen
05-09-2006, 08:44 PM
It is definitely not a romantic comedy.

I thought the same thing since it was Woody Allen. but this is very different than most stuff I have seen of his.

okay so two things
1. match point wasn't so bad, i really wanted to see it cause it was woody's first time doing this type, and in england no doubt. i also think it is some weird way of him dealing with his own twisted past family relationships. doing whatever it takes to ensure your own happiness, and suffereing mental neurosis because of it - maybe i'm just reading too much into it.
2. netflix is great, haven't seen the inside of a video store in ages. but if you actally try to view as many movies as you can, they will throttle you! they work the system to cap high volume users at around 12-13 a month. so kinda not cool. but who should watch so much tv anyway? also, we use our netflix list as our running tab of everything we have ever thought of maybe seeing. that list maxes out at 500. i would let you see it but my bf doesn't like to share...

okay...just watched Match Point. and while i WILL give it points because i originally thought it was the OTHER tennis film starring kirsten dunst and the dude that played Chaucer from A Knight's Tale...i still thought it was pretty boring. the first 90 minutes was pretty unnecessary. once it got into the murder mystery portion though, it was good.

if the first, let's say, 45 minutes had been cut out, this movie would've been fantastic. as it stands, it's pretty boring.

but that's just, like, my opinion.

Very funny that you got talked into seeing Match Point. I thought good not great.

If you want boring, try Bullitt with Steve McQueen. SQ & I watched it last night. If you are in the mood for 110 minutes of nothing, try this film. I noticed that LH has it in his queue. LH - its not recommended viewing.

Hey chimpo, What is the name of that movie where arnold wears that shirt on your avatar? I kinda wanna see it.

Pumping Iron.

...where he also said quite possibly the greatest thing ever said on television, ever.

"The greatest feeling you can get in a gym, or the most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is... The Pump. Let's say you train your biceps. Blood is rushing into your muscles and that's what we call The Pump. You muscles get a really tight feeling, like your skin is going to explode any minute, and it's really tight - it's like somebody blowing air into it, into your muscle. It just blows up, and it feels really different. It feels fantastic.

It's as satisfying to me as, uh, coming is, you know? As, ah, having sex with a woman and coming. And so can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like, uh, getting the feeling of coming in a gym, I'm getting the feeling of coming at home, I'm getting the feeling of coming backstage when I pump up, when I pose in front of 5,000 people, I get the same feeling, so I am coming day and night. I mean, it's terrific. Right? So you know, I am in heaven."
