Great works of art, such as Michelangelo's David, can trigger aggression, nausea and a desire to destroy the work, according to Italian researchers.

"It's a range of strong emotions which go from enchantment, through vexation ... a vandalistic impulse, right through to panic attacks," said Graziella Magherini, who has dubbed the new affliction the "David syndrome."

I think they just don't like his weiner.

I wouldn't like it either...David is a larger-than-life sized man statue, with a smaller-than-life sized penis....lame.

It's interesting to note that in the past- including renaissance times- the larger a mans penis was - the less intelligent he was supposed to be. Almost none ( none that I know of) pictures from earlier periods depicting a male nude shows a large penis. Were there large penises? Probably so, and as the stereotype has it - even today - those belong to people far below the ruling class. To be well endowed was a mark of inferiority – and therefore a depiction of the boy who was to be king was presented (even by a gay artist) to be less endowed (and maybe he was).

The article on which you comment ( link (http://thebluerider.blogspot.com/)-in April's posts ) about males in particular getting upset about a portrait of `perfection’ – might not- as you might or might not be – focused on the size of his penis. He is a boy in this statue and he has time to `grow’. The curious perfection that Michelangelo brought to the huge marble piece ( his love of the male boy form) might antagonize a person of lesser qualities (though of greater appendage). Others have noted the diminished size of his penis and have speculated on it. But if he was huge – would he not need to be covered?

On this site there is also a story about a statue with a male with a very large appendage reads –

Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris has fenced off a famous tomb to prevent lewd acts being performed on a statue.

The effigy of 19th Century journalist known as Victor Noir has long been popular with women visitors.

This is partly due to his reputation as a romantic figure, and partly because of the effigy's design.

Officials concerned about damage to the icon's groin area have erected a fence around the grave, and a sign prohibiting indecent rubbing.

that's a crazy-ass effigy to have on your tomb... yourself, horizontal, with a giant erection.

genius, really. i mean, the guy's tomb is still getting some action!

that's an awesome cemetary though. i think most people go by it to see morrison's grave, but oscar wilde's there, too, and a ton of insane gothic tombs.
