Jack Johnson put together the sound track for the movie Curious George. It was released February of this year.

How cute! :monkey:

Do you think Jack Johnson's fan base will go down because he put this album together?

Also when he tours, will he get a really strange crowd following?

Who is this guy? I keep seeing his name around... and for some reason I associate it with "feel good" rock music... am I right?

Jack Johnson--I would describe it as beach music. Easy to listen to, socially conscious, laid back. He's definitely talented. I would also describe it as stoner straight-boy wuss rock. (Affectionately.)

Unfortunately, I kind of think all his music sounds the same. He's got like four songs that he cycles through in different forms. But a more in-depth Jack Johnson listener might totally disagree.

Also unfortunately, he's being sucked into that genre of music-lovers who ruins so many good things: the Frat Boys. They sucked in Dave Mathews, G-Love, Ben Harper, and now they're starting to surround Ms. Johnson.

I wouldn't call it wuss rock. Definately takin it easy beach music. He's from Hawaii and a surfer. Its not surprising that he plays beach music.

yeah, i really like jj, but i can see matt's points. a lot of his music *does* sound the same after awhile. it's good, but similar.

i like the one song i keep hearing on the curious george soundtrack.

the first album, 'brushfire fairytales' is i think his most solid effort, but the others have some good tracks as well.

matty and i listen to bxr at work. it is the official jack johnson station.

he only really has one song , but i like it. although i might not like it after another week or two of non stop j.j.

i think ben harper is better and galactic and also robert randolph. but after those guys, j.j. is prolly the best modern performer out there.

he is better than g- love and special sauce, who sounds almost identical. excpt for just one good song over and over, its more variety with some lesser songs thrown in. there is this guy called jason mraz who thinks he is jack johnson but he lacks the talented voice and the song writing ability. by that i mean jack has the ability to come up with 20 different poems to sing to his one song.

I have some respect for bxr. It does have the same style of music that it plays, but its a local flavor.

Miami only has generica radio (actually play the same songs, on the hour everyday).

Be glad it hasn't been bought and whored by clear channel.

Not by Clear Channel...but by Cumulus Media Inc., which is nearly as bad:

I totally disagree with Matty's disrespect towards my boy JJ. "Do it again, an I'll stab ya in tha face with a soderin iron." JD.
He plays laid back music that you can chill to, and his lyrics back on Brushfire were pretty good. His more recent album I heard, two cd's ago, was a little less influential. He put out his newest cd, and I think I heard part of it in Miami w/ soulqueen and 006 1/2, and it sounded pretty good. It had a bob your head sort of beat to it.
Next point in case, ben harper is an awesome musician. When he does not try to put out harder and crazier songs, his cd's are pretty solid. Diamonds on the Inside starts out great and ends strong, but in the middle Ben gets a little hectic and loses some of his substance. He has not sold out to frat boys as they listen to all rap n' crap. I enjoy his music and highly suggest Diamonds and Burn to Shine to anyone curious as to some good jammin' music.
Don't knock it til' you try it.

i still prefer the classic BH stuff. like Fight For Your Mind and Welcome To The Cruel World.

Jack Johnson's first album (brushfire fairytales) is by far the best, but the other 2 are pretty solid as well.

like everyone has said, it's just great chill music. definitely not bad. it's good to listen to whilst sitting on some sort of patio, sipping some kinda drink with an umbrella in it on a nice summer night and having a barbecue.

It sucks pretty bad. A whole lot of shitty AOR, mostly. It reminds me a lot of KPLA, or whatever 101.5 is.

The newest album reminds me more of Welcome to the Cruel World. Its better than Diamonds. You should check it out.

Oh, Cadi, how I love you...but don't you see how you're a hop-skip away from Fratdom? Yeah, they listen to hip-hop, but they're listening to Jack, too...

And I'm not knocking it without trying it--I have several Ben Harper CDs and several JJ CDs. I just think they all sound the same, and a one-disc Real Deal is probably all I need from either of them.

It's the radio that's killing it! Every day at work, I hear the same three Jack Johnson songs over and over, at least one of them every hour, and it gets to the point where you're like, "C'mon, Jack, get a new bag." And that Ben Harper with his "save the world, people are beautiful" crap. :p

Then again, I like my music a little more fast-paced, with a touch of suicidal malaise...

Over-exposure to any kind of music can really ruin a good thing.
It has certainly happened with me.

I've always told you, slipknot and Korn is the way to go.... I'm so outraged at your frat comment that I can't even think of a proper retort. Maybe me and Slam will cut you out of our Royal Flush business adventure... Always worth a thought....

You can't cut me out of my own idea! I came up with the video game toilets! Not to mention the Aristocrap...

The frat comment was in jest. I know you're too sweet to join one of those scummy, homophobic, date-rapin' bastard squads. (But if I ever catch you saying "faggit" again, I'll drop you off hog-tied and naked in front of Arch and Columns on Bear Night. :D )
