jiggle the chain. it won't stop running because the rubber thing in the tank probably isn't forming a tight seal.
that sounds kinda dirty.
jesus, i leave for more than 24 hours and you have to start fucking up our plumbing, huh?

Cool, I'll check that the rubber has formed a tight seal when I get home. Don't want any accidents occuring. :D

its hilarious how larryhead can create and modify and upkeep this message board, but the toilet tank has got him stumped.
i would think the computer would be much more complicated.
just giving you shit, LH

try adjusting the chain. if jiggling didn't work, take the cover off of the tank.
then undue the chain connecting the rubber gasket and the handle.
straighten and unkink this chain and reattach it at the propper length.
you might have just had too much slack and it kinked.
if this doesn't work you can just turn off the water to your toilet down by the floor. you can turn it back on any time you need to flush and then turn it back off to avoid water waste. this should keep your water bill down until you can get a permanent fix.
i hope i'm not telling you obvious shit that you already tried. if so, ignore my prattle.

No no, I seriously do appreciate the help since I'm completely inept when it comes to these things (and Cam is no better - he'd suggest we hire a plumber :D). I'll try your suggestions tonight though, and hope for the best. Thanks duckplucker!

also if the chain thing doesn't work, it could be the rubber thing that seals the hole at the bottom of the tank. check that to make sure it's not cracked or erroded in any way, especially around the outside edge. if it is you'll have to get a new one. i think they're available at home depot. (haha, i laugh everytime home depot comes up because of Old School).
