There may have already been a thread started on this movie, but I thought I would throw in my $.02. I would say a three out of four stars. P.S. Hoffman gives one of the best performances you will ever see (definitely worthy of the Academy Award). I would only recommend this to those who enjoy character films. If you like action and adventure, this is not the movie for you. It is very slow and, at times, loses focus. The acting is exceptional and is the strong point of the movie. Like the 1950's Kansas it depicts, the movie does not hurry and takes several twist and turns before meandering its way to the conclusion. I watched the movie with my Mom who grew up very near the place in Kansas were a majority of this movie takes place, so her incite into the events involved may have made the movie more interesting than it would have been without her background information. Still a very good movie, seemed very Robert Redford Director esque.

Anybody else see it?

last night, larryhead and i had the option of watching either

a) capote, or
b) aeon flux

we went with the latter.

we both sincerely regret our decision.

This weekend I just watched Capote and Owning Mahoney (boh are P.S. Hoffman movies) and I really thought they were outstanding!

Though they both move slow at times, Hoffman's perfomance in each is incredibly convincing and moving. The way he uncovers the different layers of his character you just don't see much these days.

Like JVO said, these are character study movies... so if you enjoy those types of films, definitely check these out!

I think the unsung hero of capote is the actress playing Harper Lee. Definately one of the best portrayals of a lesbian in Hollywood cinema. I thought it was a very insightful portrayal of one of America's more reclusive great authors.

Did you know she's still alive? ... or was last year.

Well, they said at the end of the movie, that the book "In Cold Blood" made Capote the most popular author in America at the time, so I'd imagine it's very well written. It was also the last book he wrote, probably because the experience fucked him up so much and he became an alcoholic. I haven't read it though.

i thought it was very well done. it did make me feel icky, though. that ickiness was slightly alleved by the final quote at the end of the film.

( i don't want to be a dreamkiller, so i say nothing of specific nature)

(maybe that just makes me wishywashy)

(but i'm not sure)
