You can't fuck with that.
"Yeah. That's it. An omellete. On my head. Best breakfast EVER!"
"Sure buddy, it's your money."
"Make sure there is a big fork too. So people know it's an omellete."
"Whatever you say dude."

Tattoos are trashy, mmmkay :twocents:
Ok, I just deleted a post that was kind of reactionary and rude, which is exactly why I have a problem with the above statement, so I removed it since I realized the hypocracy....
However, I have to say this irritated me quite a bit.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tattoos on this board...and I realized the comment was not directed at me or anyone else, but the issue is that making a statement like this puts a label on someone's character without consideration for anything but the one thing it judges.
The problem with this statement, is the same problem with saying something like "Blacks are Inferior" or "Blondes are Dumb"
While the connotations are not the same, the issue is.
The other problem, is that you, Larryhead, are not dumb, and yet you've made a statement equivelent to the statements above in consideration...and as far as I know those statements are made by people who are ignorant, in the sense that they don't know what they're talking about...and still decide to have an opinion.
So in hopes of helping you out a bit, so that you don't go around thinking that everyone with a tattoo is trashy, and insulting them without knowing anything about them...here is some info.
The first thing you must understand is that tattoos vary in importance and meaning for each person who gets one. While a lot of people go into a tattoo parlor as they go through life, being uninformed or sheep in the hurd, many many people take them seriously and have good personal reasons for getting them done.
The first tattoos were for rituals and rites or religious and class nature. They acted as symbols to illustrate rites of passage, with age or action. Later they were used to denote criminals, which is probably where the poor and completely outdated opinion of them comes from.
Today some respectable reasons to get a tattoo could be to follow the traditions of a culture that you identify with, as a rite of passage, or in my case to note moments in my personal history as marked moments, things to always remember as well as a development of the psychological ability to control the minds reaction to the external world.
One of the main purposes for this, is the pain one goes through in order to recieve a tattoo.
Many different cultures have cerimonies and traditions that focus on the control of the perception of pain to better understand the psychic reaction, and in time over come it. The idea is that if one can overcome such a natural and instictual reaction, one gains greater control of self and the nature of their own being. The image then serves as a constant reminder and a sort of honor badge, a memorandum that pain is an illusion of the mind.
For a short period of time, I studied under an ink artist in New Mexico, and one of the things that man taught me was that while a lot of people go into a tattoo shop, pick something arbitrary off the wall, and then regret what they got 3 weeks later, many people and specifically the more serious clientelle take tattoos as seriously as they do religion or philosophy, and in those cases tattoos usually act as extention of those things.
Here are some sites, that talk about tattoos in a serious manner, with historical, negative and positive reactions to them. The point is that while you may be adverse to them yourself, tattoos are not just for sailors and show offs, and can be more than superficial and arbitrary. A lot of consideration has gone into the study, act and evolution of tattoos and their purpose.
The first is a brief history.

Second some Kant on adornment and beauty.

And third a re-iteration of my point...from someone who's done more research.

NOTE:
The "bad tattoos" site definately sports what I would consider poor decisions in body art choice (to each their own I guess)...but it doesn't represent all tattoos.

tatoos are trashy. period!
....
everyone's two cents weigh equally.
Wow we have such open minds here....
everyone's two cents do weigh equally...and that was exactly the point, people with tattoos are not necessarily trashy people, and you and Larryhead seem to think that its just one way, I wonder if either of you even read the stuff I wrote or checked out the links...well if you didn't, here's the catch: My point was to illustrate that there are OTHER WAYS TO LOOK AT IT.
I'm done with this, but seriously...I really thought that you guys were less narrow minded...

Wedding Crashers was fucking funny.
Sometime I don't watch movies because of its intelligent quality. I watch them to be entertained. Vince Vaughn is funny. I'll watch most of his stuff. I like stupid comedies. I bet you didn't like Anchorman either.
Those type of movies are supposed to be stupid and funny.
Quit taking everything so seriously and lighten up Duck!

of course i only watched 10 minutes of anchorman before i realized what a stinker it was. i also hated zoolander, meet the parents, dodgeball, big mama's house, dumb and dumberer, anything with jim carrey, anything with ben stiller, etc.
you have to be clever to make me laugh. jokes about farting and pooping are for children. immature children.
sorry, i'm smart and i have good taste.
don't blame me for being right.
you can watch yer stupid movie. i made the mistake of watching it too.
just dont be surprised if i make fun of you.
you can make fun of me back if it makes you feel any better.
btw i saw ken and lucy at staples today. they come by alot and i kill time chatting with them while my boss gives me dirty looks.
redbirds forever!!!
I think there is a line between Big Momma's House and Anchorman. I'm not too big of a fan of Jim Carey myself.
Dodgeball was damn funny too.
I don't think you have a sense of humor, Duck.

i thought you had better taste than that. i dont know chimpo personally, but i know you are intelligent and i cant believe any body with half a brain could be entertained by that waste of film.
i can't believe that anybody with half a brain would say something arrogant and uninformed like "tattoos are trashy".

Go redbirds!!!
Is it me or is this thread totally screwed up? First of all there seems to be two main topics (stupid movies and tatoos) that don't seem to have anything to do with each other. Secondly there are responses to things that people said, without any mention of what was actually said. Have people made crazy inflamatory statements and then backed down by deleting them?
Nobody cares but I think tatoos are cool. I personally don't have any (only because I am hairy and tatoos on hairy bodies are pointless and slightly revolting and because there is really nothing I want a tatoo of). Probably the worst thing that has happened is that the popularity of tatoos has made the entire thing kinda mundane and expected. I suspect their are fewer girls who don't have tatoos on the small of their back, than who do. Also laina, all though I do agree with you that saying that all people who have tatoos are trashy is unfair, I must say that is nothing like saying that all "Blacks are inferior". Black people are born black, people who have tatoos have made a choice to do so. Just like people who have 10 piercing all over their body (something else I think is cool), people who get tatoos are making the choice to do so for whatever reason. Not sure that has anything to do with anything, but I just thought I would throw that out there.
I don't really like jim carey or ben stiller either, but I think Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are hilarious. Haven't seen wedding crashers, but i loved Starsky and Hutch and Dodgeball, so I suspect I would like wedding crasher too.
wedding crashers was hilarious.
tattoos, like anything else, can look amazing when done well, or trashy when done quite poorly (as in the above example). while society-at-large may once have held certain opinions about people who choose to get tattoos, i think those stereotypes are quickly fading.
irregardless, back to the main thread topic, why-the-fuck-would-you-get-a-tattoo-of-clay-mother-fuckin'-aiken?

because he's soooooo dreamy!
Did anybody catch the 100 Funniest Movies of All time on Bravo? I saw a lot of it and although I didn't agree with the order, I thought it was a pretty good representation. i think Animal House was number 1 and I certainly can't argue that. My fav comedies are Kentucky Fried Movie, Stripes, and Life of Brian. I think all three of those were on the list.
DP what are some comedies that you do like? What is intellegent comedy and what is an example?

OK, so that this doesn't happen again in the future, the time limit to edit/delete a post is now limited to 30 minutes.
Also... just because you delete something, that doesn't mean it cannot still be read by certain people (ie. the mods). So don't post stuff if you aren't going to stand by it.

OK, back to what I said before... I honestly do think tattoos look trashy, sorry if that offends you, but I do. I'm not sure why anyone would care though, really it's just my personal taste, like your taste in music, food or clothing. I prefer looking at a body "au naturale" that hasn't been all inked up. Or maybe "artificially enhanced" would be a better way to put it... which would also cover things like piercings, boob jobs, lips jobs, etc. :)
Also, my remark wasn't directed at anyone in particular. I know several people on the board have one or more tats and I have several friends at work with TONS of them... and honestly I don't think less of these people, I just look at it as if they are wearing bad clothing.... permanently. :p
And sure, I recognize that tattoos have a long time-honored history and there are plenty of cultural and religious reasons for getting one. But let's be fucking honest... the majority of young people today are getting all the same tattoos because it's become a fucking clichéd fashion accessory for the white middle class. My least favorites are the "tramp stamp" (ie. huge lower back tat) and the clichéd "word in Chinese letters" (ie. the Chinese symbols for Love and Courage). Give me a fucking break. At least omelette head guy was being original :disgust:
Anyways, as far as personal preferences go, I find most tattoos to be done in poor taste and an immediate physical turn-off on girls, there are always exceptions, however... but, different strokes for different folks.
