provocative statement of the day:

"We are all in love with our own pain."

discuss.

I read something similiar, that discussed how many of us, do what we do everyday because its the only thing we know. We develop habits. Then there comes a point where we can't do anything else. Our track in the road is too deep to try to move to higher, smoother ground.

Sometimes I feel jobs are a good example of this. Once you become pigeoned holed for a certain type of job, its hard to be hired on as something else. Because you don't have experience. But how can you get experience if no one will hire you because you don't have experience?

I'm not for sure if it relates to being in love with one's pain. Except that most people would rather complain about something than initiate a change.

i think that people tend to help create conditions in their lives that will perpetuate whatever story it is which they tell themselves about themselves and their lives.

a person convinced that they have bad luck and never will make it anywhere brings with that viewpoint, that story, a selective focus on the events in their lives. the person begins looking for data to support his/her theory that life is a piece of shit, and can interpret anything to fit this story.

similarly, a person who tells themself a story that life is full of chance opportunity will find their lives full of chance opportunity.

and whatever story gives you the most comfort or safety, or has simply been going on long enough can dominate your perception of the world.
