i'm a huge wine fan. i keep a pretty stocked cellar. i'm always looking for recommendations from friends and others. i was looking today for a website/messageboard to create my own personal portfolio of wine tasted/rated. i want something i can share with my friends and give recommendations from. something like netflix except for wines. anyways...anyone know anything.

My aunt and uncle own a winery in Livermore Valley, CA Their stuff has gotten pretty good reviews and they just opened a tasting room out there.. check it out:

I'm not a big wine aficionado, but I really like their stuff.. their Starfall is pretty good :)

I wouldn't normally link to another board, but this might help you:

I've never come across any "netflix" type wine sites though.

i must say that i've noticed several wineries offering screw tops which weren't total crap. however, given the choice, i always take cork. there's something to getting a corker out and opening a bottle as opposed to simply unscrewing a lid.

i got one of those corkscrew things from sharper image where you just press down and the cork just pops out.

That's the new fad for neo-bohos and yuppies, its fashionable to drink wine now, so its become popular amongst designer wines.
We used to sell this at the restaurant I worked at and is a good example of this new phenomenon.

I recently found that I really like Petite Sirah a lot. It is real inky and has good body. I found a pretty good one the other day when we were tasting at some vinyards in the Sierra foothills called Fleur de Lys 2003. Not to shabby!
