So let's hear about the show.. how'd you like the venue, set list, new material.. anything crazy happen?? The people have a right to know!
well, the venue was Gorgeous. we had nice box seats on the left side. really good view of the stage, but i think just about every seat in that place had a good view. (well, maybe not the nose-bleed balcony)
the black keys opened up. i saw them at lolla last year, but they sounded tighter this time. i think they're a damn fine band, but, what can i say? i'm not that big a fan of the blues, even it is distorted and crunchy. those two guys can fill out some sound though.
i've seen radiohead before, but never actually seen them. i was always way the hell far away in an ampitheater, so to actually see them up on stage, rocking out, was nice. thom danced around a lot like a silly indie-boy, which was cute. the sound in the place was amazing. super-insanely-loud but nicely balanced.
they played a long set, and i guess my only gripe would be that it was almost 1/3 new material. not that the new material is bad, but i always like to hear the old favorites.
well, one other gripe. the audience could've been better. when i saw them a decade ago with 007 and SQ opening for REM, there were a lot of stupid frat-types in the audience screaming "bring out REM! bring out REM" over the whole radiohead set. now, those same dickweeds are at the radiohead shows. not to say that there wern't a ton of hardcore fans there, but i guess only the yuppies could afford the scalped tickets for the good seats. and they were definitely more vocal.
my highlights: hearing bones (they almost never play that one live) and like spinning plates, which is crazy different than the album version when they do it live. it was also nice being close enough to get to see jonny's crazy assortment of equipment!
all-in-all an awesome show, but not the mind-blowing, religious experience i thought it could have been. oh well, air has a new album coming out next year, so they'll tour again soon :>

hey slam, glad your tix worked out for you. your show sounds similar to mine complete with the thom yorke dork dance. what i spaz, i had no idea, but i loved it all the same.
so this was my first radiohead show and i just was really blown away by the giant SINGALONG it became everytime a favorite oldie hit the stage. i mean, this band has always been something i listened to alone, so it was way weird to hear everyone else chime in. a little disappointing. i wasn't expecting anthem rock.
but the sound of the place was good. not quite as intimate as the chicago venue, but i enjoyed it all the same. i really liked the black keys and was very impressed by their full sound as well. not bad for only two fellas.
radiohead changed instruments more than i was expecting and i thought that was great. other than that, i enjoyed the play list. some of the new songs i liked right off, but others seemed a little long in the tooth by about half way through. i will be curious to hear the album.
in the end, a good expereince, i'm glad i went, but if i see them again, it will only be in a small-ish venue like this one. (yeah, good luck with that.)

Now THAT is a well-written review!
Wish I could have seen them this time, but it's not really in my budget atm. I've seen them twice before, but those shows were at huge outdoor venues and you could only see the band on the tele-screens that had setup. Kinda dissapointing to have a few thousand people standing in front of you blocking your view! :grumble:
Slam, did they do the piano version "Spinning Plates"? That version is one of my favorite Radiohead songs.

yup. one of my favorites, too. heartbreaking.

I agree with everything Cam said, except I just don't like blues rock...I couldn't get into the Black Keys...
and I guess I remember being more enamoured with band members in the past, I was far more interested in the music than what the band was doing...although, I gotta say, the "thom yorke dork dance" is pretty damn cute.

well...i guess love for the blues is slowly dying in some of our people. makes me sad. oh well, guess I'll keep the blues alive.

I can't seem to recall that slam was ever much of blues fan.
I like the blues, jazz better...I would love to see a great blues show.
hell, you all can watch a lot of the show on youtube:

some dude apparently caught quite a bit of it on a cellphone/video-camera! quality ain't half bad, at least gives you an idea of what the stage was like.

That song is a snoozer though... hope the album version is better.
Also, if that was recorded on a camera phone, that's very impressive.
