I just had to reinstall XP on my aunt's PC a few weeks ago.

However, for some reason, I can't set the screen resolution better than 800x600.

She already has a pretty crappy monitor, so obviously the icons are just huge and it's hard to get around.

Even if you go into display settings 800x600 and 16 bit color is the ONLY thing you can choose.

Has anybody ever heard of this before? I must've installed XP hundreds of times with no problems before now. Is it possible that it could be her monitor? I'm thinking of bringing a newer one over there to test. (her current monitor is 4 years old).

Any help would be much appreciated cause I can't figure this one out. Never even heard of it happening before :dizzy:

The only time I have experienced this is when the specific driver for the video card is not installed.

yeah, i think it's almost certainly a driver issue.
