"like macgyver, but for food"

http://www.snacksby.com/

bascially on this site you can type in what food you have on hand, and they will give you a recipe for what to do with it - ta da! nothing to it. now when all you have left is a can of tuna, half a bag of marshmallows, and ketchup you can find the recipe to save the day!!!

Now that's a good idea... I've also seen a similar site, but for making drinks.. can't remember the name right now.

It also makes me wonder why there isn't like an authoritative cookbook website out there with every recipe ever. It could work similarly to Wikipedia, where the content is controlled and maintained by the users.

Why don't we have one of those yet? Huh? HUH?!? :drumfingers:

this reminds me of a cooking show idea that my roommate dave had in college. he wanted to call it something like the 'sureral gourmet' (which, i think, someone has since decided to use as well) where they'd have a chef go into college kids' houses and do their best job to create something declicious with just what's on hand.

now, i'm waiting for when they have this website linked up with rfid and intelligent refrigerators/cabinets. "show me a list of what i can make with what i have on hand right now!"

My mom did that shit once. Her and my dad came to visit my shitty little one bedroom loft apartment for Christmas. I unfortunately fell terribly ill on Christmas eve. My mom proceeded to make a delicious Christmas dinner with the meager ingredients that I had on hand. I think the only thing she bought was a honey baked ham. Only the power of a mom can do that shit.

thats a very valid question and i think thats part of the reason i have not used them yet. i've had them for so long i don't think i could cope with the loss if they've expired. i'll keep you posted.

when i worked in a grocery store, if a customer would come through the line with only 3-4 items, i always privately imagined they were go home and throw it all in the blender and make a bizarre smoothie.

organic milk, kale and tuna shake anyone?
