I always think its funny how quiet the board is on the weekends. I guess I know what most people do at work during the week.

Anyway, how was everybody's weekend? Anything exciting happen?

SQ & I went to the Wu concert & then had a small BBQ at our crib on Saturday for a few friends. [Mmm BBQ...]. Sunday, we ate some Aloo Gobi & watched Walk the Line [a really terrific movie]. Also, throughout the weekend I trolled other messageboards & grabbed some new avatars. I like my new one, but SQ stole the one that I really wanted. :(

I wish Larryhead would finish up his projects, his posts really help keep the board going [considering he has over 2,000 of them]. Or at least get his posting monkey back on the job. :)

Well back to work, I'm really f'in slammed here. Boo!

You know what stinks? Having your weekends during the week. For the past month and apparently for the next month, my weekends are Monday and Tuesday. (Except for next week when I work Labor Day. What a crock).

It was all good and well at first.. I got to run "errands," but what errands do I really have? None. Then I started shopping. A lot. But that's lame. I have no one to hang out with. And I can't even go to the beach because it's like 70 degrees and raining.
Completely lame.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, please pass them along. For now I think I'm going to read a bunch of old magazines that are scattered around the apartment.

on friday night, laina and i went to a rehearsal dinner for her aunt's wedding. wedding was on saturday. it was at the osaka gardens and was really pretty. it rained all morning, then let up just long enough for the wedding, and rained again all night. reminded me of SQ and 007's wedding!

saturday night, we was exhausted and skipped out on the giant beer bash party. the groom's brother had made two kegs of homebrew for a wedding gift, and it was good :>

yesterday, i did a little cleaning (larryhead is a messy creature), and did some programming for the two jobs i'm working on top of my fulltime job. just a nice day at home getting lots of shit done.

today is cool and rainy. not a bad day to plug away at a computer...

G'morning folks

Well, I've been ridiculously busy lately as you know, but I think that will be letting up soon after being off the board for most of the last couple weeks. Glad to see the place is still running smoothly.. it looks like I have a lot of threads to catch up on, and if you PM'd me I should be getting back to you finally today :)

Friday night Paula and I went to a Playboy party at the Cubby Bear and it was pretty lame and full of douchebags (was also open to general public @ $25/ticket.. male to female ratio was at least 10:1)... Paula was not a a big fan either, so I doubt we'll be going to another one. (Picture a sports bar with every tv screen playing a Playboy DVD with playmates naked and rubbing themselves, and every guy in there gawking at everything and the few girls there just looking uncomfortable, and trying to talk over a really loud, not-very-good cover band). Free booze flowed for a few hours, so that was the only plus side of the event.

Saturday we bummed around Ukrainian Village and went to a bunch of little boutique shops. We stopped by this cool Polish bakery/general store where no one really spoke English and all the products were foreign, and we bought a bunch of stuff that I have no idea what it is, so that will be fun to try out later. I also bought some sort of green soda drink that tasted like pickles... being half-polish, I can attest that polish people are crazy.

Saturday night I stopped by hasslehound's going away party for a bit and saw many of you people there.. good drunken fun. Sunday we just took it easy and went out to brunch with some of Paula's friends. For dinner she cooked up some tasty falafels w/ homemade cucumber sauce... mmmm, I ate many. :binge:

I just ordered more shoes from Zappos.com. Something about getting shoes in the mail.. cracks me up.

Today is crappy and gray and rainy.. as Slam said, a good day to just plug away at work until it's over.

Back to the websites for now...

Slam = my posting monkey :D

The projects are going good and nearing completion finally, so I expect to be around here posting a lot more again soon. Lately, I've been seen wandering around work, mumbling "All I do is work around here"... I think people are getting concerned and have been dropping hints like "vacation time", etc. :)

You cleaned????? Are you feeling ill?????

Paula has got me sold on her Polish cleaning lady I think... she comes over bi-weekly and will scrub the place top-to-bottom for like $50/pop.

Before you answer... I want you to picture the bathroom. Now picture it being cleaned spotless by someone else for a nominal fee.

Saturday night there were Jesus freaks all over CoMo. They were camped out in front of the Blue Note and Eastside (where I went) along with a few of the busy intersections downtown. When we got to Eastside there was some sort of altercation involving drunkards, christians and the fat dude who works the door. Must have scared them off (or they had a midnight bedtime) because they were all gone when I left. Probably a good thing, because I am sure I would have involved myself in the discussion to my own demise.

i'd pay that in a second. someone to clean your house is great. it's not like you get a free pass. you still have to keep the place up. it's just that you no longer have to dust and mop and shit.

Well I discovered that I have a crazy neighbor lady. Over the weekend, the girl came over 5 times for one reason or another. A couple of times she wanted to "borrow" a few cigarettes, then she wanted to "borrow" some quarters, than she wanted to "borrow" my truck. I must admit it is pretty frustrating. I gave her want she wanted until she asked to borrow my truck. I can't imagine walking up to a total stranger and asking to borrow their car. Anyway I am afraid at some point she is going to come over while I am asleep and that will be totally bad news for her.

so my weekend had a dip into crazy assholedom on saturday morning. my fella and i were on our way to rockland county for his uncle's 60th birthday party. we were meeting at his folks house before going, but first we decided to go by and get his car inspected. (last year in brooklyn his sticker was one day past and he got slapped with a $60 ticket - we weren't going to do that again.)
so we pull into the first place we see and ask the guy if we can get the inspection done, he says yes and so they pull the car in. after a few minutes they pull the car back out and say that its going to fail because the check engine light is on.
we say, yeah we know, its a burned out sensor, but the last mechanic (who burned it out) said it was no problem.
so they say if you think it will pass we will hook it up.
what the hell do we know, so we say sure, go ahead. and then all of a sudden i was wondering if it is an immediate failure if the light goes on, and i ask my bf if he should ask about it, but he figures they wouldn't go ahead and check it if that was the case.
WRONG.
after the inspection is over the guy comes back out with the failed inspection papers. he's like, see - it failed because of the sensor.
and we're like, why did you test it if you knew it would fail?
and he said i told you it would fail.
and we said, but then why did you give us the option to test it, if you knew it was an automatic failure? isn't that dishonest?
he said it isn't up to him, its a state run computer system, and the system said it failed.
and we said, if you know that every time you hook up a car with the check engine light on it failes, and yet you gave us the option of testing the car, thereby leading us to believe that this wasn't the case, you are a big fat fucking liar!!! (well i just insinuated that last part, but i really wanted to say it. i was so mad.)
so we argued about his honesty, and our understanding, and it started to get hairy. we didn't want to pay for the "serivice" becasue it was all bullshit, and he wasn't going to release the car otherwise.
so b isn't having any of this, and while i have been trying to talk us out of something, he goes and gets in his car and is attemping to drive off with it. the two guys we have been dealing with start freaking out yelling, threatening to call the cops, standing behind the car, and then pull the garage door closed, thus trapping the car. they say we are trespassing, and we have to leave the garage.
so now i am yelling, and laughing, because the whole thing is so absurd, and i shout - just pay the guy! if he wants $37 dollars this bad, just pay him! and b his trying to give him a card when we find out that he only takes cash, and all we have is plastic. we have to walk across the street to get money from an atm. add insult to injury here.
finally after b's whole family shows up (because we were of course late to the birthday party by now) and the fucker gets paid, our car is released and we leave. thank god the party was at an italian place with lots of free flowing wine. i really needed it by then.

so now our car is upstate with b's family, going to get fixed at his dad's mechanic. hopefully it won't cost alot, and hopefully this whole stupid ordeal will be over soon enough.

god i hate cars.

side note - it was weird that the situation escalated like it did. my theory is that the guy knew he was being shady and tensions raised quickly when he was challenged. there is now a special place in hell reserved for this fucker.

one last thing to add to my rant. and this really gets me. my least favorite thing to hear come our of anybody's mouth, and the least credible excuse ever is:

"I'm just doing my job."

i HATE that. its like you get to be whatever kind of monster you choose just because you are doing your job. you can hide behind your job and get away with not treating people as fellow humans. i say fuck that. i always call people out on that one. someone says that to me in their defense of indefensible actions, and they will get an earful. and a hearfelt one at that. not just yelling and ranting like i am doing here.... : )

I'm with you Ag. Mechanics suck. I would guess that >50% are crooked & out to screw you. Car inspections are also a crock. You don't have to get an inspection in FL. Of course you see a ton of shit-mobiles driving around without head or tail lights [among other problems], but I think inspections are just a total gyp. You take your car in & they ALWAYS find a problem.
'Um, hole in the tail pipe, cracked wipers, chipped windshield...' Just an easy way for mechanics to make a buck by charging you $50 to put on a $2 wiper blade.

we have to do emissions testing in chicago, but that's free i think (i don't remember paying anything anyways heh)...and i don't think we have to get any other sort of inspection. oh yeah they check our gas cap or some shit at the same time they do the emissions test.

inspections are always a crock. *of course* they'll find something wrong! then they'll usually try and feed you some absolute bullshit about how it's illegal for them to let you take the care out or some shit without getting it fixed first.

here's a little video clip that will infuriate your all the more:

That is one nice thing about living in small towns. Whenever I get my inspection done they don't even look at the car, they just charge me $9.00 and give me the sticker. One time I got my inspection done, and I didn't even have my car with me. I remember when I lived in big cities it was always a huge pain.

If I remember correctly, the shop can't do any work on your vehicle unless they tell you ahead of time and you approve it, they can't keep your car once you pay the inspection fee (even if you fail), and if you take your vehicle back to the same place that failed it, they have to do the inspection for free (even if they did not do repairs). Not sure if that is true everywhere, but I remember doing research on that awhile back.

The trick to living in large apartment complexes is developing the skill set of pretending you're not home and NEVER answering the door. If it's a friend of yours at the door, they probably have a cell phone, and probably have the sense either to call you if you don't answer or at least shout "Hey it's (insert name here) asshole! Open the door!"

Now that you've given her cigarettes and money, she'll never leave you alone. Time to stop answering your door.:)
