Hmmm...
I sure do like Newcastle, but it's a bit sweet to be my #1 favorite.
Right now Bellhaven is my favorite.
I think I can only do a Top Five:
1. Bellhaven
2. Guinness
3. Bass
4. Sierra Nevada
5. Harp
Newcastle is on the top ten, but I'm not sure where exactly. I'll drink Newcastle when Eastside runs out of Bass, which is pretty frequently.
Never had Bellhaven, Gonna have to look for it if it's your #!.
Good list, by the way.

Bellhaven is kind of like a cross between Guinness and Sierra Nevada. It's hoppy like Sierra Nevada and sort of orangey-amber colored (at least in the dark of a bar), but it's thick with a good head like Guinness. The only place I can find it in CoMo is on tap at Mojo's. I'm going to have some tonight.
Yum!!

I can't order them all, but this is how I rank 'em today. I like American-style ales.
1. Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
2. Bell's Third Coast Ale
3. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Victory Prima Pils
Bell's Two-Hearted Ale
Unibroue Cranberry Ephemere (or the Cassis)
Unibroue Maudite
Anchor Steam
And I'll throw in a porter and a wheat beer because why not?
Flag Porter
Wittekerke
I'm sure here are a million other delicious beers out there these days. I want to try them
Great list Hotfoot. I've only had Sierra & Anchor.
This gives me a mission. Try new beers (because I like them all).

It comes in a 4-pack of yellow cans with the little CO2 thing in it, like Guiness. Acutally here, I found a link...

If you can get your hands on some give it a go, it's creamy deliciousness. :p

Now that I see a picture of it, it looks familiar...I think maybe Cherry St. Artisan has some.
The problem is that only douchebags hang out there. I may have to go just so I can try Boddington's though.
Thanks for the tip!

Anyone every try Smithwicks? It's the new beer from Guiness. It's mighty tasty!
Anyone every try Smithwicks? It's the new beer from Guiness. It's mighty tasty!
I will definitely be looking for it! Mmmmm....
1) Guinness (a timeless classic)
2) Caffrey's (an irish ale that rates high cause i haven't found it in years)
3) Newcastle (anytime, anyplace)
4) Paulaner Oktoberfest (a seasonal treat that makes autumn my favorite time of year)
5) Red Stripe (the only beer on my list from north america)
6) Spaten (god damn those germans know their beer)
7) Wittekerke (a new discovery that's light and refreshing)
8) Boddington's (if it comes with a widget, it's gotta be good)
9/10) Harp / Bass (they really are flip sides of the same coin)
Wittekerke is a new one to me, Slam. I'll be on the look out.
Also I have to actually give Slam props for introducing me to Boddington's.
I have really grown fond of this beer.

I'm still coming up with a list of my own, but I did have a good one recommended to me this past weekend.
Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout
It was mighty tastey.
Oh yeah! That Sam Smith's is delicious.
wittekerke reminds me a lot of blue moon, but it's better. and it comes in a can. just about the best beer to come in a can that doesn't have a widget in it. i should grab a few six-packs for the float trip next year.
and if anyone ever finds caffrey's anywhere, i'll pay you to mail it to me! hmmmm, i wonder if i could order it online?
http://www.briansbelly.com/beerbelly/caffreysirishale.shtml
caffrey's ale, rated 10.27 (out of 10) by 221 beer drinkers!
damn coors company bought out caffrey's and doesn't import it anymore! boycott coors!
Anybody out there like Red Hook Beer?
It falls just outside my top 10 list (esp. Winterhook)
If you like ESB's try any Red Hook brew.

Yeah!! Flat Branch IPA!
I also like Flat Branch ESB, but it goes flat if you try to put it in a growler or keg. Too bad.
I thought I would dig this thread back out. There were a lot of beers I vowed to try off this list & haven't. Must get to work, er, drinking.
Also, great work Paul on the homebrews! That mead was really terrific.
I recently bought the Sam Adams Brewer Patriot Collection.
It's a 4-pack of specialty brews which were very, very tasty. Highly recommended. Included one of each :
Traditional Ginger Honey Ale
George Washington Porter
James Madison Dark Wheat Ale
1790 Root Beer BrewLook for the collection at a store near you. I'm sure you'll love it.
[Duck I'm looking in your direction among others. Go, buy it soon.]

Here's my list (even though I don't like to drink beer too frequently):
1. Guinness (it's more popular than I thought!)
2. Resurrection (from a local brewery; it's da bomb!)
3. Magic Hat (Out of Vermont I think; it's fruity and light but still packs a punch)
4. Blue Moon (again, it's fruity)
5. Amstel Light (because it's a good beer without too many calories - really)
I used to work at a restaurant/bar which had a ton of taps, and I got to sample all sorts of beers. I've found that typically, I prefer stronger, darker beers and also fruity beers (as made clear by my list). I remember not really liking Caffrey's; it settles like a Guinness (automatic points for that!), but ultimately was a little bland to me.

I'm just glad Fat Tire is finally in My Kind of Town.
I guess my list would be (note these are the only ones I can think of, it might change):
1 -- Smithwick's
2 -- Fat Tire
3 -- Guiness
4 -- Coors Light
5 -- Miller High Life
6 -- Leinenkugel's Amber Light
7 -- Harp
8 -- Red Stripe
9 -- Budweiser
10 -- anything that comes in a variety pack
I will throw my list up so that I can be mocked:
5. Coors Light
4. Blue Moon
3. Heiniken Light
2. Rolling Rock
1. Spaten
For me the closer it tastes to water, while still containing liquor, the better the beer.

" You cant be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline, it helps if you have football, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you have to have a beer." Frank Zappa
" Beer is the nectar of life" -- Henny Youngman
"Beer is the proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin
Now you tell me, how could there be anything better than a really good beer. I have sampled hundreds, and I have not sampled enough. I must publish howerver, that I am no " beer snob", who only drinks micro brews and something that no one has ever heard of before. Snobbery is not for beer, just drink beer and enjoy it. If you have no beer and someone offers you a beer, take the beer; no matter what it is, you will be making the world a better place. Just think of all the peace and love all over the world if we had a beer hour- you know - between say 4 and 5 CST- everyone in the world had to stop and drink a couple of cold ones with friends. Utopia, thats what.

One worth trying to see if it fits the list is Pony Express. Its a Kansas brewery that was opened by some MU grads. It was available in CoMo when I left. It reminds me of a better tasting budweiser. Its either a pilsner or light lager by definition, but is definately a decent tasting beer. I found myself purchasing the product when I didn't want a Blvd Pale Ale or Paulander when the weather was warm. Budweiser also makes a hefeweizen called Widmer, which is decent, but I don't know their distrobution system for this product. Budweiser Select are Budweiser World Select are other warm weather beers that has some unique qualities for mass distrobution beers.

It was illegal to sell Coors east of the mississippi for a long time.
I remember when I was young, there would always be people who would come to Colorado and stock up on cases of Coors to smuggle back to their home. It was like they were running moonshine or something. I have no idea why it was illegal. I remember people out east talking about it like it was this incredible delight. Kinda like Cuban Cigars I guess. Now it is just another in a long line of shitty beers.
Although I must admit, Coors Light "The Silver Bullet" is my favorite of the crappy beer variety.

Are you sure it was illegal, or was it just that distribution didn't reach east of the Mississippi? This is exactly the same phenomenon that occured with Fat Tire. When it was finally distributed east of the Mississippi this summer people went nuts for it, God knows why.

I like Fat Tire & everything else by the New Belgium Brewing Co. Including Blue Paddle, Sunshine & 1554. Mmm...

I tried drinking beer from the New Belgium Brewing Co. multiple times. It was a readily available beer in CoMo. Their beers contained my least favorite quality that is found is beer. It had an aftertaste that is common in many microbreweries. My senses are honed to recognize this specific charactoristic. Here in NC I have found several local breweries that failed to overcome this common problem. It expains why beer festivals do well in this area, because beer is brought in from other locations that brew decent beer. You don't have to agree with my opinions of the New Belguim Brewing Co., but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not even as a happy hour special.

What about Canadian beer. Molson has a few decent beers, and Moosehead is decent. Does anyone else have a favorite? I was in Calgary a few years back and they had a decent brewery called Big Rock. Their "Trad" was the flagship brew. Does anyone have a recommendation that may not be a mainstream here in the states?
Tried a pretty tasty new beer this weekend. It was German - called Hansa. Light bodied, similar to a Grolsh or Heine, but very flavorful.
The real clincher for this beer was the price. I bought a 6-pack of PINT bottles for $6. Look for it at your local liquor store & give it a whirl.

slam and i tried a couple of new beers over the weekend. taj, from india. a nice lager, kinda has a bite, but not too bitter. also has nice floral/fruitiness that isn't at all overpowering. definately a good cripness. went well with dinner. i also liked the 1646 (i think this was its name) from france. a lager as well, but a little darker than the taj, and with more of a bitterness - which was good. i would probably try both again if i come across them.
