View Full Version : Help Me Nerds
I have gotten a few movies recently, and had problems with the sound matching up to the video. I remember this problem sometimes occuring with other people (slam). Is there a simple solution or is it just a bunk movie? :?: :(
that's usually a problem with the codecs you're using. codecs (COder/DECoder) are the files that your box uses to create or play a movie. you probably just need the newest versions.
there's some software out there called 'gspot' (Search google for 'gspot codec') that you can use to see which codecs a movie file was created with. most use divx and xvid.
NOTE: there's lots of codec 'packages' out there, like the tsunami filter pack. people will convince you to just download this one file and it will have all the codecs you need in it. DON'T DO IT. not spyware or anything, but they just suck, and they're almost impossible to get rid of.

Yeah, get that Gspot program and open the movie with it... it should tell you the codec the movie uses that you are missing. If you can actually play the movie though like you said, it might just be you need to update an outdated codec.
Also lot of videos use the DiVX codec, so I'd install that just to have it. Here's the link: DiVX Play Bundle (Free) (http://www.divx.com/divx/play/) If that's the one you need the movie should start playing correctly.
What is the movie file extension (.AVI, .MPG, .MOV, etc.)? What operating system you using?
Thanks for the help. So I got the Gspot & it claims everything is in order, which it is except for the mismatch. It seemed that the first half matched & the second half had problems (it is all one file). I have DivX & Xvid (among others). Poofdogg installed all of these for me. I am attempting to download a new copy of the movie (that will hopefully work), but that is not always an option. Also, I run Windows XP & I usually try to get .avi files.
I am new to the world of geekdom, so please have patience as I try to get initiated into the lair of nerds.
