so, the top ten list made me remember the painful loss of caffrey's fine irish ale. ever since the dastardly Coors coporation bought the beer in 2001, they stopped importing it to the united states (apparently not wanting to diminish it's flagship irish ale, killian's).

i miss it. i really do. how i long for just a taste of that creamy ale.

so i just wasted the last half hour trying in vain to find a place that i could order some online. but no luck. anyone know a good website to order obscure irish ales through? anyone know someone currently living in ireland/europe that wants to make a quick buck mailing me beer?

I could've sworn I just had a Caffrey's a month ago at The Five Star on Chicago & Noble.... unless I'm going crazy, which is always a very real possibility... hrmm...

Yeah, I know I've had Caffery's before, and I thought it was more recently than rive years ago. I remember thinking it was lame compared to Guinness. :o

well, you can't compare it to guinness. it's a whole other beer.

i emailed my complaint to coors today, and here's what they have to say on the matter:

Dear Camden:

Thanks for your e-mail. We are always interested in hearing from our consumers.

At the present time, Caffrey's has been discontinued in the United States, but we're hopeful that we can bring it back sometime in the future. The decision to remove Caffrey's related to the overall review of the brand portfolio.

If you have other questions or comments, Camden, please contact us again either by e-mail at coors.com or by calling the Consumer Information Center Hotline: 1-800-642-6116. We are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain Time, and the staff will welcome your comments.

Sincerely,

someone savvy in marketdroid speak want to explain what they mean by "overall review of the brand portfolio"?

I might be a little rusty on this, but Diageo(Guiness) used to hold Caffreys. Caffreys was always a weak seller in the states. Guiness at the time got rid of Caffreys and Bass to bring in space for Smithwicks. Coors probobaly looks at Caffrey as bastardizing their sales of Killians. Killians a big seller didn't ant to lose out that market share, and Caffeys not a big player was just making it harder for Killians to compete. Guiness/Smithwicks/Harp is a stronger brand portfolio than Guiness/Bass/Caffreys. I just found this out, the black and tan(Guiness and Bass) was a marketing ploy by Diageo, just like now a black smith (Guiness and Smithwicks is). I prefer Smithwicks over Bass anywho.
Hopefully I got this right.

I debated calling her, but didn't. I tried reciting a past conversation from memory. Her first job was as a Caffreys rep.

first of all, if coors own caffrey's i can assure you that it will not taste like the caffrey's you had in 2001. cost cutting measures and coors' brewing process will have changed the beer.

secondly, why don't you try a belhaven on tap somewhere in the city? it's a similar beer (nitrogen pour and all) and far superior to caffrey's.

Do they actually print this on the can up north?

They do here in Miami, but not sure if its a nationwide thing.
Curious...

God, I LOVE Bellhaven! The only place in Columbia that had it on tap just got rid of it so they could serve Dos Equis instead.

Assholes!!!!
