so sandwich, hasslehound, brix, and i booked our tickets to tokyo for dec. 6 through 18. (hopefully noeyedeer is booking soon also.) if anyone else is interested (slam, larry?) let us know.
tokyo's supposed to be expensive as hell but we found a 4-person apartment 7 minutes from downtown for $580/night. if we make meals (especially breakfast) for ourselves, the cost ends up being very affordable.
and, good lord, tokyo? you know how many neon signs we'll get to see?
You guys travel all over the place.
Its so awesome.
Don't you fellas ever take any pics?
I [among others] would love to see them.

Wow, that's exciting. Have you been before? I have a few friends that have gone to Tokyo, and all over Japan, and they loved it.
I'm totally jealous.

i am so excited for you guys. tokyo is awesome. i visited a couple of years back and was just amazed by everything. luckily i was traveling with a friend who was living there, and his language skills proved invaluble, especially when navigating the subway system. but there are plently of people that speak english, or at least understand it.
at one point when we were traveling without our friend, this old man helped us out with our directions. he didn't speak a word, but could write english just fine, and drew us this incredible detailed map. awesome.
i wouldn't recommend skipping meals out infavor of eating in. sure on occasion is fine, i love perusing grocery stores in other countries. and trying to figure out what the hell you are looking at is fun. but street food - especailly noodle shops - are not expensive at all. and it is sooo good. i swear the best udon i ever had was right after we arrived in tokyo and finally found a place to sleep and then went out on the town. i literally felt like i was on a different planet. a very delicous planet. yuummmmyyyy!
by the way, if you are thinking pb&j is the way to go on the cheap, forget it. we tried that and man, their version of those things are de-scusting! the peanut butter is super sweet like you would find in candy, and the bread is the whitest, softest, strangest thing ever. totally kicks wonder breads ass in that department. i would say stick to rice and veggies and you will be good.
it looks like you will be there for a good long time. nice. and don't forget to visit akihabara for all of your electronic needs.
you will have to report back on your adventures. so exciting. : )
slam if you can - GO!

Nice, the Tokyo trip sounds fucking awesome.... I would really love to go with but I already have like 5 trips planned before the year's end (including Grand Cayman!), and Paula and I just booked a trip to Sweden so I need to lay low and save my dough for a bit!
Though it goes without saying, take lots of pics!

when and why're you going to sweden? (i'll be there next june.)
i have essentially zero vacation time after all the weddings i have this month.
tokyo would be like a dream trip for me, but i doubt it'll happen.
seems all i ever do with my vacation time is go to weddings and holidays at home.

Tokyo=bad ass
I loved Tokyo!!! I have been to some other cities in Japan also but Tokyo is a big motha.....I advise reading up on some Japan Etiquette before you go. Just remember Respect, Respect, Respect!!! Even something as small as not eating all the sushi on your plate is an insult to the chef. Not eating all sushi=chef sucks. But if you like the chef pour him a glass of sake and remember if you offer him something he cant refuse. It is VERY disrespectful to refuse a gift is Japan. These are just a few examples....not that you all really care about this stuff but I find it fascinating. Have a great trip and try not to spend every $ you have....its easy to do in Tokyo...
Oh Ya forgot to mention GO to a Karaoke bar they are SUPER popular in Japan and a GREAT time!!

i think they're all heading out tomorrow or have already. everybody wish em luck! i'm not sure why i'm wishing them good luck...it's not like they're going to play the little league world series. or ARE they? hmmmm....
good luck and have a great time! bring me back a shirt ... or the cheapest pair of chopsticks you can find ... or nothing. heh.
they left on wednesday, assuming talking sandwich found his passport in time...
