Ol' Renhquist bit it this weekend. Not sure what this is going to mean.... not really likin' the fact that Bush is having the opportunity to appoint 2 to the court.

I can't say that I'll miss that fucking prick. Still, this creates a bad situation... Bush gets another appointment. :(

"Rehnquist served longer as chief justice than anyone in a century, and his 33-year career as a justice was among the half-dozen longest in the court's history," wrote David Savage of The Los Angeles Times. "Under his leadership, the court restored the death penalty, allowed more public funding for religious schools and pulled back from the frontiers of civil rights and individual liberties."

verrrry interesting that roberts is now nominated for chief justice. i bet scalia is pissed.

honestly, i was rather impressed with the roberts nomination. g.w. could have done way, way worse than that guy.

but maybe that was just to lube us up for his second appointment. (can you say ashcroft?)

I met Judge Renquist when I was in college (my con-law professor was a good friend of his and my college was a short drive for DC). He gave a lecture to my class and I remember he was the stoggiest, surliest, most elitest prick I have ever seen. I also remember that it was one of the very few times in my life where I knew I was in the presence of genius.

Since we now have two openings, I think Bush should go with the Bartlett theory. Nominate the most facist, backward thinking, religious zealot, redneck possible. Then nominate the biggest picko commy, liberal, socialist possible and let them duke it out for the next 30 years. That would be better then the collection of vanilla justices we have now. The only way we will ever get independant minds on the court is to nominate them two at a time. Otherwise it's more of the vanilla.

yeah, but i'm concerned that he'll consider roberts his 'pinko commie' candidate.

HE HE HE! That is definitely possible. Don't think the Dems are weak enough (especially in light of recent events) that they would let too conservative a justice onto the court without getting someone who will clearly uphold Roe in return. Nope it's vanilla for all us! Ironic that the less opinions you have the better justice you make.
