so i was just wondering how many people on the board use chopsticks to eat with. do you use them at restaurants when they are offered? do you request them at restaurants when you expect them to be there? do you use them at home? how often?

i really learned how to use chopsticks when at 19 my boyfriend at the time ate with them more often than not. i was a little nervous when i visited his family for the first time, of being an embarassment. but his sister's coaching has always stuck with me "so long as you get the food to your face - that's all that matters".

ever since i have used chopsticks whenever they are offered or requested when out, and about half the time at home. i don't think my technique is great, but i think they are a nice change of pace. and certainly there are just some dishes that i can only associate with this wonderful utensil.

anyone else? :binge:

i use chopsticks at any restaurant that offers. i also request them whenever i feel that i should have them. however, only at restaurants. i don't really use them at home, unless the delivery guy brings some....

i like using them. :)

i use em when offered or when i expect them. but i don't go at like pepperoni pizza with chopsticks. just chopstick food.

oh also, same with me for home, don't use em unless they were delivered.

I will generally always request chopsticks (at the appropriate places). Riche and I had a friend in college who was Japanese and he absolutely refused to use chop sticks. Even when we were at his family's house the entire family would be using chop sticks and he would use a fork. I remember one day trying to bribe him to use them, but for some reason he just flatly refused.

I'll use them if offered. But most of the time I stick with my fork.
I'm not proficient with chopsticks. I'm a mess with them normally.

I have several pairs at home and feel more comfortable at home trying them out than in public.

LD and I go to this thai place on tuesdays for lunch. he refuses to use chopsticks because he says they are an inferior eating utensil in relation to the fork.

I like to eat sushi and Thai food with chopsticks. If I make my version of American-Thai conglomeration mess (I didn't want to say "fusion" because that makes it sound better than it actually is) at home, or roll sushi at home, I use chopsticks. Sometimes at the Chinese buffet I use chopsticks, but usually a fork. I think some foods just work better with chopsticks.

I like them when we go out for Thai or Japanese, but that's about it. I think use of chopsticks adds to the overall experience of eating exotic foods, much like the using of ones hands adds to the experience of eating Ethiopian foods...
