So I just got out of serving some time in the county work house. Man does it suck. I went in on tuesday expecting to be bored, but still not hating life. After i got in i was confined to my cell for the night. I got out for about a half hour to eat breakfast. Then, they let me out for another half hour for lunch. After lunch I got 45 minutes to make calls or stand in the cafeteria. in the evening I got to eat again for about 20 minutes. After that about an hour for recreation. a total of 3 hours out of the day spent outside of my cell. People were there for long periods of time. the most I had heard was 120 days. How boring is that. I can't believe anyone would get out after that and be ready to enter society.
the scary thing is that more than three fourths of the population was black. I have always known that being black sometimes makes it difficult because of prejudice, but all of these inmates made it hard for me to believe there was not reason for the prejudice. The highlight of everyones week was a visit to the canteen where they could spend 50 bucks on candy and junk food. 10 candy bars will get you a joint and a couple will get you a cig. You then need to find a battery that you can rig to get a piece of wire or staple to get hot enough to light it. don't plan on going back, but they really make it hard on those folks.
Although i wasn't actually driving my car it still teaches one not to mix booze with flashy cars.
I did read donald goines "white man's justice: black man's grief" while I was in. It was the only book i could find as i passed from lunch to my cell. not a bad book but very outdated.
I get to spend the next two weeks on house arrest with leave for work. If you want to go out and have a drink just give me a call before you get in the car to drive.
