This is right by house, and I go through it every day. Are round abouts really that confusing to people?

by me, i've seen a ton of people going the wrong way or getting caught behind someone that just sits there without moving.
i love roundabouts. they do the same job as traffic lights but with less sitting around. hopefully we can figure it out like the Europeans already have.

I rented a car in the Cayman Islands two weeks ago, which is largely British so there were tons of roundabouts there I had to go through. At first they were extremely confusing, but by the end of the week I really liked them because they really are much much faster than a 4-way stop.
Now try to imagine this though: you are driving in a foreign country with weird traffic signs, everyone is driving on the left side of the road (with the steering wheel on the right side of the car), and THEN you run into a roundabout for the very first time in your life - it was quite terrifying. :uhoh:
Down there they put HUGE "Avis Rental Car" stickers all over your rental car so that the locals know to avoid you because you probably don't know what the hell you are doing, lol. :)

i wouldn't say they are confusing at all...they are a little difficult though without turn signals.

i was in michigan for the holiday and a bunch of my relatives were freaking out about a new roundabout in the area. one aunt believed it was without a doubt going to lead to a death a year.

Yeah, I agree that driving in a foreign place is scary, especially on the wrong side of the road. There was no way I was driving in Ireland last time I was there, but the basic concept of a roundabout is pretty basic, and helps improve the general flow of traffic.

I love roundabouts but I can see how they could be a little confusing to someone that has never driven in one. If you think these little 1 lane versions we have here in the US are crazy try the 3 and 4 lane ones in Europe. I don’t know how those people do it. I also love in Europe when there are like 5-10 exits form the roundabout, that always makes things interesting.
I have one right in front of my house and drive through it everyday. It has been their for years but people still have no idea what they are doing.
For those of you who have no idea how to drive in one here are the basic rules.
when approaching you are to yield NOT stop
once in, if there are two lanes the inner lane is for people that are not going to exit right away...I.E. they are probably turning left. However, you can exit from the inner lane but you need to use your signal and there has to be an opening next to you...obviously.
when you do approach the turn you want put your damn signal on so people know you are leaving the roundabout!! That is the biggest problem I see here is that people don’t use their signals to tell each other who is exiting and where. (note: the turn signal should be brief only just before you exit...everyone knows you will eventually exit to the right. I see people all the time leave the damn thing on their whole way around the bout :)---haha that was a little joke in case you missed it.Here are some fun youtube clips of busy intersections:
