What are your feelings about X-Mas?

I personally am a 'Scrooge' type. Everything is such a pain in the ass this time of year. Stores are busy, weather is bad, airports are crowded & I am consistently broke [and/or sick] this time of year. Although, I did all of my shopping online [which really lifted me out of one of the very worst parts of the season]; it still wasn't enough to lift my dread of the holiday annoyance that I bear in my heart.

Now, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy visiting with the family & friends, but I just hate being held to a strict schedule or routine. You have to be here, you have to eat this, you have to buy a gift for Aunt Ethel. It just feels so scripted.

There's my rant. What's your take?

My take is this: Christmas lights are beautiful, hot cocoa is the shiznit, and people actually give a damn about others for some reason during the holidays. Also, I especially enjoy getting 11 days off from work :) Sure, crowds suck and there's pressure to get a list of people exactly what they want even though most won't help you determine what that is, but for me all of that is overridden by the magic. It gives people something nice to look forward to, something that's lacking during the rest of the year.

well, hey we got 1-1-1 with the first 3 people. i can really take or leave the whole gift-giving thing and having to be at like 15 places in 2 days.

i'm one of those lazies that buys everyone a gift card, and only asks for gift cards.

I love this time of year.

I like making candy, buying gifts for everyone, sending out cards. I think its a good time of year to reconnect with everyone. Especially in the dead of winter.

I don't think the holiday is too much of an annoyance.

:snowman: Its the thought that counts yo!

I loooove Christmas. Now dont get me wrong I hate all the silly shit like traffic, lines, the mandatory gifts, but fuck man its Christmas. I love decorating the house, listening to Christmas Carols....being with family. I think that is why I love Christmas so much, because my family is spread so far around the world, that I don't really get to see them on the holidays, thus I get all sentimental. Since I am not going to be with family, and my wife is not home for Christmas for the first time, we are volunteering to serve food to homeless on Christmas day.

Every year that goes buy I find myself disliking x-mas more and more. I mean I love the fact that I get to see family and friends but the buying of gifts is increasingly a pain in my ass....mostly cuz i dont have much money. Over the years I have grown to hate x-mas carols and since most of the holiday is focused around religion well.....lets just say the glove doesn't fit the hand.

Now I do enjoy holiday cheer and the lights, and who can forget eggnog :D

I feel lucky that for my family, Christmas is really what we make of it. Sure, my parents are religious, but that gets overridden by the fact that they are happy that so many of us are together. We play games, eat, and laugh a lot. There is no real pressure to get the perfect gift or to spend a ton of money. We draw names and only have to buy a gift for one person, which saves a lot of time and money, especially considering I have seven siblings.

Woohoo!

Working in retail has certainly soiled Christmas for me.

Nothing says X-Mas like a woman in a puffy Star of Bethlehem sweater telling you you're an asshole because you can't fulfill her last-minute Christmas gift idea because it's impossible.

people actually give a damn about others for some reason during the holidays.-- LB

i agree with this,,, i did say "deck the halls" but i agree with that in more than one way. people i dont like feel the notion to talk to me around this time of year.

and another thing--my aunt and cusins get crazier every year and for some reason if im not in a good "CHEER" when i see them --they act like nothing has happend all year.........

just cause its christmas doesnt mean i want people to talk to me who i dont want to talk to......

im not going to rant

I've tried to incorporate the drawing of names in my family, but they all complained. :(

I like buying presents for everyone, though I can see how it can be a little much if you have a large family.

My grandma does it too. She buys presents for everyone. She doesn't have to, but she likes to.

It shouldn't be all about the presents anyway. I like having that time with my family. Otherwise who knows when we would see one another. Time flys.

And the food is good too. :D

i'd prefer to just buy gifts for my immediate family. i see my other relatives like twice a year and one of those times is christmas when some of them are buying me gifts. if feels wierd as hell accepting them.

i do like christmas, but that's mostly because i can ignore it until about christmas eve when i can start to enjoy it with my family. i tend not to be in stores that play christmas music and all that shit, so until i get home i'm usually pretty much in the clear.
