My younger brother will be heading to champaign for school in the fall and he is currently trying to decide which dorm to live in. He says he wants to live in the "6 pack". Which is Scott, Snyder, and Weston on Peabody Drive. And, Forbes, Garner, and Hopkins on Gregory Drive. Any suggestions on which one is best? Does it really matter?
depends on what you're looking for.
i lived in the engineering dorm, which was conveniently located, but full of lame ass dorks. paul, larryhead, and lots of my other good friends lived in the six pack, so i was over there a lot. they were more of party dorms, with coed floors. they're a little further from the quad, but if you want the typical party-dorm atmosphere, they're great for that.
the florida avenue residences sucked. really far away, and in shitty condition. shining_path lived there.
allen hall was where a lot of the cool, artsy kids lived. that hall always had lots of guest speakers, people like patch adams would live there for a few days and give talks/round tables, etc.
of course, things may have changed considerably since i was there. but i think the six pack is a good fun choice.
if i had to it all over again, i'd live in allen hall first, six pack second.

Tell him to check out the Six Pack (Garner, 3rd floor represent)... or Allen Hall (that's where the Assassin lived).
I can't speak for the other dorms, but they prolly all suck :D

Oh, and if he is going into Engineering, people might try to sway him into living in private posh dorms, like Hendrick House... don't do it. It is way the fuck off campus and full of asshats. I lived there my first semester and it was a fucking nightmare.
That is all.

If your bro is a meathead or is planning on joining a frat, then the six pack will be perfect. Allen Hall was pretty damn good for a dorm and a lot easier to get to engineering campus than the six pack. Mainly engineering students and fine arts people.
Yeah, if people tell him Hendrick House or Illinois Street Residences (ISR) then they should be punched in the dick. Those places are lame as hell.
