Anyone here watch the cancled sci-fi / western show Firefly?

Me like it very much. By that joker that made buffy (never seen it) and angel (never seen it either) . .

If anyone wants it, i have the whole season on my box, i can upload it somewhere.

I guess they are making a movie out of it now called Serenity. (with 2 more to follow)

If anyone is into sci fi . . . check this out.

I have been into Firefly for quite some time. When I heard about the movie I shit myself. I can't fucking WAIT.

It's awesome.

And...secretly...Buffy is kind of good once you get into it. It takes a few episodes, but it's really easy to get hooked. It's also really easy to get sick of.

Buffy sucks.

Firefly is a show that was on for one season. . I guess Fox played the series out of order because they didn't think the first few episodes had enough action. . .therefore no one who watched it when it was aired could follow the story since the characters are so numerous and complex. . .lets see how can i describe it . . like a western that takes place 1000 years in the future. China and the US are the only remaining super powers and everyone speaks a chinese / english hybrid . . . lots of people getting shot . . did i mention the interesting, complex array of characters.

Maybe this trailer for the movie would explain it better:

Put your cheese filter on low and enjoy.

Aaron and I, being huge Firefly fans, watched a "behind the scenes" thing about Serenity.

We nearly flew apart in ecstacy. Can't wait for the fucking movie!!!!

Serenity now!! That movie was fucking AWESOME. Lots of dangling plot lines finished up, the best Firefly writing yet. It truly captured that hopeless feeling--I really wasn't sure how it would end.

The villian is very complex and interesting. Assassins rock!

I'm not sure how people will feel watching the movie who haven't seen the television series, but I definitely don't think you have to have seen the tv series. The movie kind of explains a lot about the characters through some early good development on everybody.

There should be some sort of award for people who make a movie based on something and don't fuck it up. Joss Whedon could have totally beefed on this, but he obviously poured his heart and soul in the writing and effects and what have you.

I give this movie my Kickass Award.

007 and I have just finished watching the Firefly series and the movie Serenity.

I really loved the tv series. Space cowboys, with a comic twist is very entertaining.

I don't think the movie was necessary. Or I guess I didn't like the serious edge that the movie had. I guess its interesting to find out how the Reavers were born and such. But as much as the characters didn't give a shit about the Alliance, why would they risk everything to broadcast a little movie. What would that prove?

Also what did you guys think of them killing off a couple of the characters? Granted Walsh was kind of a wussbag, I was sad to see him taken out.
Also Shepard seemed like he had a real interesting history. One that went with him to the grave. How did he know so much that much about the Alliance? Why could he get medical attention whenever he wanted? Why did he leave the crew?

They made Mal's character kind of a hardass. He was a softee with a tough exterior in the tv series.

It was kind of cool to see River kick some ass.

What was your favorite episode. I think Objects in Space was my favorite.

TV series
Movie  1/2 I'll go with it because I liked the show so much. Though I would have taken a different turn with the movie myself.

It looks like they left it open for a Serenity 2. Do you think its possible?

i just watched the series as well, thought it was absolutely fantastic. i can't fault the movie too much cause it pointed me to the series, although i thought them killing off the characters was kinda crappy, especially after watching all the episodes. i think The Shepherd was one of the most interesting characters on the show. Joss Whedon even mentions in the making of the series that they had a whole huge story arc explaining The Shepherd's past that now will never be known. sucks.

i have heard they are going to be working on a serenity 2 as soon as possible (but who knows when that will happen?)

from the ones i can remember off-hand, i liked the episode Our Mrs. Reynolds the best.

I think they implied that the Shephard had been an Assassin in the past. I draw this from the way the Assassin and Mal parted, with the Assassin saying that he's basically nobody from nowhere now, but with all Alliance priveleges, which is just like the Shephard.

My favorite episode is maybe the one where they go to that planet where Jane is worshipped as a hero. Hi-larious.

i recently went through all these and the movie after seeing the praises in this thread.

excellent sci-fi!

i like the series much better (jaynesville was a classic!), but the movie looked like it was just trying to wrap up the whole river story-arc, since it was one of the cooler ones. i liked it.

anywho, much praise from me as well. and here's a funny short interview of mr. whedon if anyone would like to see it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DLyuTU26sDk

My favorite episode was the one where they land on that planet and Jayne is a folk legend and idolized by everyone, and they even had a sculpture and songs written about him, heheheh.

I doubt they'll make Serenity 2, seems like in the commentary the director was finally ready to say goodbye and move on to other projects.

....

Just noticed other people already mentioned that episode :)

Also, the episode where the Capt. is dying and hallucinating flashbacks on the ship was pretty neat too.

slam clued me in on the firefly and i'm so glad he did. i am in the middle of the series with the movie still to go, so i only glanced over the last postings cause i don't want to spoil anything - but this new flurry is right in my current headspace with this great show. i have been pacing myself because i don't want to gobble it all up at once. we shall see how long that lasts....
