ok,
so, my my screen is freakin gout.
Could potentiall be a virus.
I have been negligent in upgrading Norton and now, when I try it says my connection and proxy settings arent correct.
anyone have any suggestions?
mostly I can't read aything on the screen. there are flucks and dots at regular intervals all over the screen but sometimes they change & flickr. Sometimes they even go away briefly.
So.... computer wizards, what's the verdict? should I backup and take it to the serice techs or is this something i can fix without too much trouble
am using WinNT .
Will try and post a imageof my problem later...
when does the strangeness start? when you turn on the computer and it shows the memory/drives/etc, when the windows loading screen comes up, or only after the desktop is running?
first thing you do is backup all your important information. sounds like there's a ghost in the machine somewhere.

it starts during boot up...
do you know if the included windows backup program will grab most everything or do i need to save personal files/save files in addition?
if the problem starts before windows even loads, then it's probably not a virus or anything, just some jacked up hardware maybe. i don't think the windows backup program is the greatest... i'd use it too, but also back up everything separately. can't hurt.

Thanks Slam-
Gonna take it to the techs in the next few days. It's practically impossible to decipher what i'm typing.
Last time I tried to take it in they were real assholes and said it'd be 3 weeks before I get it back, so... if I disappear for a while, that's what happened.
If I'm not back in a month, I couldn't withstand the social pressures of being unplugged and I killed myself.
nice "knowing" yall!

Sounds like either your monitor is crapping out or your video card is taking a dump (love those fecal anaologies). I'd try plugging your computer into a different monitor and that should tell you if your monitor if fucked. One other thing to check is to make sure you don't have any magnets or wires near your monitor that could be causing interference.
oh no.... did diamond's computer end up in the morgue?
