From today's NY Times article titled:

To Conserve Gas, President Calls for Less Driving

"With fears mounting that high energy costs will crimp economic growth, President Bush called on Americans yesterday to conserve gasoline by driving less. He also issued a directive for all federal agencies to cut their own energy use and to encourage employees to use public transportation."

""We can all pitch in," Mr. Bush said. "People just need to recognize that the storms have caused disruption," he added, and that if Americans are able to avoid going "on a trip that's not essential, that would be helpful.""

"Mr. Bush promised to dip further into the government's petroleum reserve, if necessary, and to continue relaxing environmental and transportation rules in an effort to get more gasoline flowing."

"In 2001, Vice President Dick Cheney said, "Conservation may be a sign of personal virtue, but it cannot be the basis of a sound energy policy." Also that year, Ari Fleischer, then Mr. Bush's press secretary, responded to a question about reducing American energy consumption by saying "that's a big no."

"The president believes that it's an American way of life," Mr. Fleischer said."

so, let me get this straight: in times of emergency, we should practice energy conservation, spend massive amounts of money helping people who need it, set up special minority small-business loans... i can't wait until they declare free health care for all of the hurricane evacuees...

why is it that the government suddenly got so liberal? i mean, if bush was talking this kind of shit 5 years ago, he'd have been laughed out of the good ol' boys room.

I cant believe the gasoline prices have gotten so silly!
I remember listening to an interview the other day with a cheif of one of those oil refineries basically saying the reason they had to raise prices was because of the "threat" that the hurricanes were posing to there facilities.....
wait wait wait,so people are paying almost double the price based on a posibility that the facilities might be destroyed?
LMAO! What the hell is that all about?!?
Maybe its cause Iam not glued to the TV people but I havent once heard on the news of an oil facility being destroyed only the insinuation. This to me is all some backdoor for bush (as well all expected) to raise the enviromental laws for the everglades and areas of Alaska for oil drilling.
On another note, he asked for 50billion to fix new orleans...... how come I dont hear any hammers?
