For the love of karma, pleeeeaaase I think it's time for some good stuff to come my way.

In January some guy rear ended me on my way to work - hard enough that it sent me from being stopped to flinging me and my car forward and what would have been into the car in front of me, but there was no one in the oncoming lane so I swerved and ended up next to the car in front of me. Had some nice whiplash, followed with some nice pain killers. Long story shorter I just took my car in to get fixed because when I got a flat a couple of weeks ago (I am hating cars in general right now) I found that the spare was floating in water...my entire trunk was soaked.

Well State Farm, the dude's insurance company, is paying for a rental and whatnot since Monday. I'm on I-55 going north after work today, pretty much bumper to bumper...and then definately bumper to bumper when this guy behind me hits me...once again as I am stopped in traffic. But this time I have no where to swerve so I smash into the car in front of me - chevy sammich. No damage to either of their cars but one bent license plate...rental is sad - smashed passenger headlight & that region in general, and hood bent in half and raised at the bend about 4 inches. Scratches and whatnot to the rear bumper.

So I got out and the guy that hit me asked me if I was okay, and then the guy that was in front of me starts speaking with him in spanish. Then there are about 7 guys all standing around speaking in spanish and taking pics of my car on their phones. I'm explaining that it's a rental because my car is getting fixed and general "uuuuh, what just happened" conversation. The front guy immediately acts shady and keeps saying "so what are you going to do, you hit me." And I keep saying "that happens to be because he (pointing ot the guy that hit me) hit me so hard that I hit you, so I'm not sure how this is going to work." I feel it getting strange so I get in my/rental car and write down their license plates and called the cops, while another car drives up and pulls over in front of me...more friends. I ask the guy that hit me, who seems to want to be nice about the whole situation, if he has insurance and he goes to get it. He is about to hand it to me as the other guy starts speaking to him again in spanish, quite obviously trying to talk him out of giving it to me, and this goes on for at least 5 minutes. He keeps trying to pull that same story and kind of trying to incinuate that it might be my fault, asking me what do I want to do about it, and says how he has an appointment and blah blah. Then I notice he keeps trying to see what I have written on the paper in my hand (their license plates). At that point I say "listen it's not even my car, and the cops are on their way so we'll find out what to do when they get here." I get back in my car and wait and start to freak a little because I don't know how it's going to work with insurance with a rental or who's going to get tickets or what. After what seemed like a year the state trooper gets there.

Cop shows up, talks to the guy behind me, then talks to me and asks me what happened and right away says that the guy behind is getting a ticket for following too closely. Talks to the front guy, and tells me it will be like 35 minutes for everything to process but he'll have all of both guy's contact info and the rear guy's insurance onfo for me. I didn't even have my insurance card because it was in my car, and once he found out it was a rental he didn't even seem to care for mine. Oddly enough while he's doing paperwork another guy comes walking across the on ramp (we were on the right-hand shoulder), climbs over the median, and gets into the truck in front of me...I felt like I might be tripping at that point. After an eternity he came back and gave me everything and told me the insurance of teh guy behind me had to pay for it, and that also the guy in front (the hassler guy) was getting a ticket too for not having a valid license. He made sure my car was driveable and let me leave.

What a fun time that was, I think I'll do that every day just for the fun of it. :grumble:

That stinks. Sorry that happened to you.

I've been rearended before and have had my car totaled by random strangers.

Be glad that your home. Did you have renters insurance on the rental? You shouldn't have to pay anything.
