View Full Version : Regretabble Fashion Choices

So hotfoot's post in another thread got me thinking....

lots of '80s fashion (tight jeans w/ hightops, fanny packs, lines shaved into hair) that made me laugh. i don't think these kids realize how silly that shit looked in the '80s. vanilla ice shaved lines in his hair for chrissakes. not sure why kids wanna repeat that mistake. i guess i don't understand any fashion choice that's obviously going to look super dated within a year or two.

What are some other good ones :) They say in fashion: what goes around comes around.. but obviously some things are better left in the past...

fannie pack (the winner?)
mullets
early 90's skater haircuts (shaved on sides, really long on top)
uggs
t-shirts with "blurry" text
tie dye anything
leopard print anything
hypercolor t-shirts (they changed colors due to body heat)
enormously over-sized sunglasses
wife beater t-shirts

Ok, I'm a fan of the following fads which were dissed:
1. early 90's skater cuts (they were hot!)
2. leopard print (it depends on how it's used)
3. enormous sunglasses (they are totally rockstar)

But I will point out these recent and hateful styles (mostly women's clothes):

1. skinny jeans. If you have hips at all, they are the most unflattering pants in the century.
2. pointed shoes: who the f has feet whose toes come to a perfect point? Since when did blatantly unnatural shapes become a part of haute couture? Fashion isn't worth pain.
3. Those tops that are slouchy, hanging, and gathered at the bottom. Chicks with a bit of a tummy think that they are hiding it with these tops, but they are actually accentuating it.
4. Gaucho pants: if you have one dimple in your ass, it can be seen in gauchos. And again, unless you are a skinny mini, this style does nothing for a curvaceous figure.
5. Fake gold jewerly. UGH!
6. Super-alterna dudes wearing clothes which are way too utiliarian (ex: in Baltimore, I saw a guy who'd otherwise be decent looking sporting a mop of hair which needed some direction, an extremely tight lemon-yellow tank top (almost wife-beater style), a black fanny pack, 1970's basketball style shorts in light brown with dark brown lining, sports socks with stripes, and sneakers.

was the dude spinning a basketball on his finger by chance? i mean, except for the fanny pack, it sounds like he was actually on his way to ball. the clothes sound appropriately utilitarian (if outdated) in that case.

he sounds like a candidate for hipster bingo!

He was at the movies, seeing the most recent Harry Potter. He dared to wear shorter shorts than most of my teenage girls. And I believe his shoes had velcro on them rather than lace. He wasn't just a clueless soul: it was clear that this dude believed in his coolness.

oh man that's fucked up.

i think my friends generally consider me to have an awful fashion sense so i guess i should tread lightly in this thread.

c'mon now i never wore that thing outside gym class.

my "tiger pride: runnin' & gunnin '91" shirt, however, i still wear and will always wear until it falls off my back. it's my favorite shirt. it's my most comfortable and it's been with me thru thick and thin and it's completely bitchin. i think peeps think i wear it ironically or something; they are mistaken. i love that thing as sincerely as it's possible to love an article of clothing. they're probably jealous or something.

t-shirts with "blurry" text

i forgot about those. hilarious.

as for the short shorts, i've seen them on a few so-called hipsters this year. i really hope they don't make into the mainstream during the next few years. be ready to see lots of balls if they do.

I like gaucho's. I think they are cute and bought a pair.

But I agree with mostly everything else on the list. Crocs are disgusting. Pointy shoes, I don't get. unless you plan on kicking people in the nuts, why wear them?

(Crocs, ugly plastic shoes, something that looks like it should be worn while gardening).

No one can pull of the skinny pants. NO ONE. The worst is seeing hipster guys in the skinny jeans. They look like they've hurt themselves by putting them on.

I'm not for sure how I feel about the flare jeans. Maybe I'm not picturing what everyone is talking about. :D

i don't even really think pointed shoes would be that effective for kicking peeps in the nuts. i mean yeah they'd get the job done, but they're almost too precise. i'd much rather get kicked in the junk by a pointed shoe than a bigass german wooden shoe or a steel-toed boot or something.

My Kids Mom Bought some for the two year old and i cant stand seeing him wear those ugly things. She is the type of person that will wear anything if it is in fashion and think it looks good.
Not this Daddy!
Im just saying if you got fat thighs to begin with why would you want the rest of you legs to look fatter. what are they hiding? fat calves too. Bring back the hammer pants

but i heard they were extremely comfortable.

that's how they sell...someone is claiming they are comfortable. i don't actually know anyone that wears them to verify.

anyone want to admit to wearing them to answer??

I love flare jeans. They make me feel pretty, comfortable, and happy (and even possibly cooler than I actually am).

Ms. Meta, you've got the figure to pull off those gauchos. Rock the house in em!

I don't mind 'em on kids so much, but kids are cute in just about anything to me. And couldn't you have just made my day by saying "my baby's momma" instead of "my kids mom"...you wasted such a perfect opportunity. :D
