It was going to originally be a Top 10, but I couldn't narrow my own list down that much.

Here's Mine:

01. Final Fantasy Tactics (Best...Game...Ever...The Job system was awesome, and it had a deep dark storyline)
02. Super Mario 3 (Played this game for hours and hours, over and over)
03. Super Metroid (16bit bounty hunting on Zebes, with um...Metroids, and Mother Brain)
04. Halo (The sole reason I bought an Xbox)
05. Metal Gear Solid (Best collection of bad guys.........EVER!)
06. Final Fantasy 8 (The REAL reason I failed college my freshmen year)
07. KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) (Dark Side....fuck yeah!)
08. The Legend of Dragoon (One of the best RPGs thats not Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest)
09. Final Fantasy X (I really liked the story of this game, and the original ending. Also if Square-Enix were to release an individual title based on the Blitzball mini-game. I do believe I would buy it. For me it was that addictive)
10. GTA: Vice City (Among other various improvements in gameplay they added my favorite thing from the original GTA....Super Bikes!!)
11. Gunsmoke (8bit bounty hunting in the old west....with ninjas)
12. Final Fantasy 3 (It's unfortunate that this game had such a weak ending, as the rest of the game rocked)
13. RC Pro-Am (Only non-ending game in my favorites. I think I made it to track 36 or 37)
14. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins (Stealth Kills = Awesome)
15. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (With a weird story, that just gets wierder, this one had more of the same sneaking action of the original MGS. Uploading the virus into Aresenal brings about one of the most amusing/wierd moments in the game.)

Honorable Mentions go to:

16. Gran Tourismo 3 (Driving cars I will never be able to afford, has never been so much fun)
17. Halo 2 ("Halo 2 is a lot like Halo, only it's Halo on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas, and the ninjas are all on fire, too." -Jason Jones, head of Bungie Studios.
While I don't think it was quite THAT good, that is one of the best quotes I think I have ever read)

So there's mine. Lets see what your's are.

Remember just Console games. We'll have to make another list for all those PC games, or this list would have been an impossiblel pain to narrow down. :)

Good call on Gunsmoke. That game was a lot of fun. For some reason I never bought it, but always rented it from the video store. Gunsmoke is truly a classic (which I had nearly forgotten about). I'll get back to you with my list.

1 - Super Mario Kart (simply no better game to bring pure fun to a whole room)
2 - Final Fantasy VII (this was the first FF game i ever played, and it changed my world)
3 - The Legend of Zelda (i think i can probably still beat this game, umpteen years later, from memory, in under 3 hours)
4 - Tekken III (i officially minored in this game in college)
5 - GTA: Vice City (totally brought me back into console games after years of neglect)
6 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (i couldn't even begin to tell you what the buttons do, but i can work 'em like magic)
7 - Bubble Bobble 2 (countless drunken hours spent shooting colored circles at each other)
8 - Coolboarders (like Tony Hawk, i could pick up this game still today and pull off insane tricks from muscle memory)

i'll post more as i think of them.

Hey, drunkard, I'm not sure I've played this FF yet.

Good list all in all. Mike Tyson's was a ton of fun & those Mega Man games were all classics. Whatever happened to Mega Man? Nintendo just gave up on him I guess. Maybe they ran out of wacky villains for him to face.

wow this is tricky Ive played so many.....

1) Suikoden 2 (BY FAR THE BEST RPG - Nothing beats your own castle and 108 playable characters! Plus the mix of traditional RP,
customizable powers and even tactic style stradegy battles at keypoints in the game)
2) Xenogears ( NOT Xenosaga ) ( The mix of different game elements and story line of this game took it to beyond a level of other
RPG titles and earns the rank of my #2)
3) Grandia (Great characters and character development! )
4) FF 10 ( Loved the work they put into the summoning and the game for once being based around one)
5) FF 7 (Changed RPG gaming as we know it)
6) FF8 (Had a good story)
7) Valkyrie Profile (Nothing beats working for gods a being a demi-god yourself)
8) Azure Dreams (Fun if you have patience)
9) Spellforce (its not a console game (PC) but its a really good game thats gone overlooked!)
10) FF11 (Online) (I havent seen anyother online game that has put sooo much detial into the enviroment and managed to make it
feel like a world rather then a carboard cut out of another scene in the game)
11) Summoner2 (This was an awsome game! Especially once you get deeper into it)
12) Legend of Dragoon ( Good when it came out and thats how I'll always remember it!)
13) Vanguard Bandits ( FF tactic style game but with magic/mechs - Only downfall is that it wasnt very long )
14) Vagrant Story (engrossingly fun - Hope a part 2 comes out)
15) Chrono Cross (it had its moments, I debated putting Lunar in this spot ....)

Well since I have to end it at 15 there you go lol. I wouldve kept going but this should be enough. Lately it feels like the RPG Gamer has become a dieing breed

VERY UNTRUE! LOL

They're all playing MMO's on the PC, and there are a FUCK TON of them.

WoW,SWG,EQ,EQ2,CoH,FFXI,AC,AC2,Lineage,Lineage2,Ra gnarok Online,Shadowbane,Ultima Online,Matrix Online,Planetside, etc. Don't fool yourself, ever just found the Internet, that's all.

What's the best MMORPG... if you could only choose one, which would you play?

Hans Brix

honestly WoW, even though I don't play it myself. I think it's the best one out there, and definately the best for a beginner MMO player.

I played FFXI for almost 2 years. And I can tell you many things that were wrong with it. It was a very good game, which is why I played it so long. However.....

1. Endgame sucked..... it was "camp" city on ever mob, reminiscent of EQ1. Complaints of JP vs. US lag, etc. Not fun, at all.

2. You had to group to XP. This was a huge flaw, that caused many ppl to leave. Waiting hours or days for a group that probably will suck is not fun.

3. Classes were horribly unbalanced. Which partly affected #2 in my list. Way too many DD classes. A healer/mana battery was never to be found when you needed one.

4. The graphics were shitty. I mean they looked FF nice, but compared to what was available on the PC at the time, there were behind. And yes I understand they were forced to use a small palete because of PS2 compatability, but it still hurt them.

5. Gil sellers/Farming. Personally ruined the game/economy on my server, Midgardsormr, which proabably was one of the biggest, if not the biggest server of all. I have followed up and saw that they have done things to remedy this, but honestly it was too little too late. Many ppl I knew had already left, because Squienix took too long.

I could go on, but I really don't want to. However, I do think that this game may definitely have a revival. Which would be unheard of for any MMO ever. With the launch of the Xbox 360, from what I understand, FFXI will come as a free demo. Like a free month trial or something. And with updated "360" graphics, it may draw the MMO kids back to the console, we'll see................

Nice review... I had wanted to give FFXI a try, but I think I'll hold off or try picking up WoW. :) That is, unless the new Neverwinter Nights is coming out soon... not sure if that one will be MMORPG though, but the first one was fucking great.

don't know when NWN2 is coming out, but it's not for awhile. sometime in 2006.

i'm pretty sure it's not going to technically be an MMORPG, but it'll be like the first one where you can download or create your own campaigns using the toolkit and then get groups together to play through them.

I love NWN. I've been steadily playing it since it came out a couple of years ago.

In case you didn't know NWN lovers..... Kingmaker and Pirates of the Sword Coast have both been released. They are "Premium Modules" released by Bioware. Supposedly they are both very good and are about 5-7 bucks to download and play.

I dont know about the capabilities of your computers graphics but the FF11 graphics looked awsome on my comp(I had it on highest qualitysettings) thats what got me hooked! The wow graphics look too cartoony for me to take them seriously. And I know alot of people that solo at higher levels on FF11, I havent seen much of a drop just the usual of any MMO people coming and going. FF11 from what Iam seeing is standing strong, I remember my server being so full as well as several others that they had to move people to other servers as a matter of fact. And I dont see the jobs being unbalanced. Theres the basic jobs and then the specialists the basic were created as stepping stones to get to the specialists so of course the specialist jobs which come from time and hard mission are just a bit stronger. Like in any setting a higher level wizard will over power a higher level warrior!

FF11 graphics do not compare to modern MMO's. They weren't shit, but they were definitely a few levels below the standard. (Because it had to be PS2 compatible, and PC games blow PS2 out of the water.) My comp is top of the line and I played at the highest settings too. I agree that WoW graphics do look cartoony, another reason I personally don't play it. And yes there was a unbalance of jobs. I'm not talking about classes being unbalanced versus each other.... because the gamed lacked PvP! And Ballista was crappy, and about a year too late. Just take a look at the game, how many damage dealing classes are there. DRK, WAR, DRG, MNK, NIN, BLM, THF, RNG, PLD, SAM, SMN. Now lets look at the healing classes. WHM, maybe even RDM, but you couldn't XP with just a RDM. Wow.... no unbalance there. Now lets look at the mana regen ppl. RDM, BRD. Ok, sure they're not unbalanced. If I were to do a lookup on my server of bards when I left, I could almost count them on my fingers. I can't tell you how many days I wasted in that game trying to find a tank/healer/mana battery. Read every board, on every site from when the game came out to when I quit and you'll see this theme over and over. There was a serious shortage of needed classes for the longest time. Also the endgame was almost impossible to be a part of. It literally required you to be on 24/7 to compete. No instances, just somewhat random mob spawns that everyone tried to get first. Not to mention the impotence of the GM's. I can think of about 20 times off the top of my head that some JP player trained mobs onto an LS taking down a contested mob, and nothing ever happened to him. Look at sniper rings too. The chinese farmers dominated that item (and others) for over 1 year, raising it's price by 900,000 gil alone on my server, and square finally decided to do something about it a few months ago! Bleh. I had fun in beta, and for the first year of the game. But left shortly before 2005 because I was fed up. I know that they have supposedly fixed and changed a lot of things since then, and I'm sure the game is mature enough now that many ppl have decided to take up those rarer classes and now there are more of them. But, it's just not for me anymore.

Real time strategy is micro managment. Might as well organize a bucket of sand.
