I have moved and I now have internet! Woohooo! I felt like I was slowly dying inside without internet access...getting around and figuring out where things are is a lot more difficult without it. I tried to get a phone book for some yellow pages, but that proved difficult also.

Move went well. Exhausting, I can't believe I did it, but I rolled with the punches. I don't even think I posted about my accident (el numero tres.) Another mofo hit me! He t-boned me, that's what the cop said - I was going through a green and the guy ran a red & just ran into me. I didn't get my car back until the night before I left. Whew! As a side note, people do not drive any better here. Less congested but people just do not seem to understand what those lines on the road are, you know, the ones that tell you what part of the road you are supposed to stay on?

Anyway, I'm alive and well down here. And from my trusty spot on the floor (ditched the couches & most furniture) I can see a number of large palm trees (2 different kinds even) in my back yard, so it's fun for now.

Good news, Meatball! We're glad you got moved okay. Now you just need to get some Ikea, some blow, and some Cuban hookers and you'll be all set!

Glad your move went well.
I found Florida to have the #1 worst drivers. They are also #1 for hit and runs.

Which area are you located? I think there may be an Ikea near Fort Lauderdale, but not in Miami if I remember correctly.

There are about fifty million different type of palms. My favorite is the Royal Palm. Cool things that I enjoyed checking out when I first moved:
Vizcaya, Deering Estate, South Beach (Beautiful People watching, all night bars rule) Everglades, Coconut Grove. What type of things do you like to do? I may be able to suggest some things.

Get ready for the best winters ever.

I forgot Key West. The drive through the Keys is one of the most fantastic. I suggest taking that trip 1st. Especially if you have time before starting work. The last week in October Key West has Fantasy Fest. Its a huge gay party, clothing optional, costumes, what nots on the ocean.

One of the best things about Key West is the open container law. You can take your drinks anywhere you want to go. And there is lots of live music.

Cool music festivals that I know of in Florida...
Bang Fest in November
Langerado in March
Winter Music Festival in March

Seeing the few live shows that came through on the ocean was pretty nice too.

Oooh thanks, any ideas of things to do are appreciated! I think there is an Ikea near Orlando. I must say that am surprised at what seems to be a lack of seafood restaraunts. I did find a Red Lobster lol, which is hilarious but I don't care what anyone says, they have really good crab legs! And LH the ol' blue hairs are actually outnumbered by the rest of the population.

Oh and I'm in Delray Beach, just south of Boyton Beach & north of Boca Raton. About 40 mins north of Fort Lauderdale in case the smaller cities aren't doing it for ya.

Hmm thats more north than I have explored.
There is a beautiful Japanese Garden in Boca Raton. There's also a beautiful orchid garden next door to the Japanese place. I found Boca Raton FULL of old people and had more churches than I had ever seen before.

I'm sure you will find the seafood. its just hidden.

Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens. (http://www.morikami.org/)
--This place was beautiful & gives some history on Japanese in SFL. Also, its nearby to where you are at, whereas South Beach & Vizcaya & whatnot are a long drive. As SQ said, a very cool Orchid Garden (http://www.aos.org/aos/visit/default.aspx) is right next door.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. (http://www.vizcayamuseum.org/)
--I love Vizcaya & think its terrific. Well worth checking out.

Deering Estate. (http://www.deeringestate.com/park/)
--Similar to Vizcaya but unique in it own way. They have a few manatees here & a cool old wine cellar & art gallery. We took a guided nature stroll out to some Indian burial mounds. Also, a note - the Deering Bros were both from Chicago & were real founding fathers of Miami.

Revolution - Fort Lauderdale. (http://www.jointherevolution.net/)
--This was a good venue [of course Wu-Tang showed up 4 hours late.] Nice place though. Good spot to catch a show & they get some names.

Other notables -

Everglades Airboat Tour - A must.
Coconut Grove
South Beach
Key West - SQ could probably tell you the B&B we stayed at right on Duvall St. Island attitude. I loved Key West. A note - treat yourself to a B&B on Duvall. Its worth the price because of the location [all the big hotel chains are driving distance from party area.] Also, check prices in the off-season & save a bundle.
FA's Beloved Dolphins. :)

I agree with 007. Key West is a great place to be. An additional stop on Duval street is the The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, http://www.keywestbutterfly.com/, and just off of Duval street is Captain Tony's Saloon, a great place to get an afternoon drink.
