So the big news for is that Katie and I are buying a house!
Our offer is accepted, and all we have to do is get financing and insurance ready for closing. We are super excited to find a neat old house in our price range in Minneapolis.
We might be eating mac and cheese for awhile, but we are super excited. Once we get settled in (and the winter is gone) I would love to have some board members as houseguests.

that's a beautiful home. i'd love it. it'd probably sell for like $750,000 in chicago.

that place is awesome - congrats! i will try really hard and not be jealous. :D
all the wood and windows and that beautiful built-in in the dining room and a claw foot tub and a decent size yard, plus the cool little studio in the back - perfect!
great find. enjoy!
is that a corner lot? not bad!
paul and v. just moved into the two flat they bought a few weeks ago. we had a little painting party. very nice place!
i'm with you guys. if i'm going to buy property, i want land. i don't want a condo, some imaginary demarcated space in the sky...

We are pretty stoked...
We still have to purchase home owner's insurance and get everything together for closing. I am trying to not let the details of a large purchase weigh my head down too much.
Anyone else been through this before?

Well, I bought a condo about 4 1/2 years ago, and we're now in the process of selling it. Also, Poof and I are buying a townhouse that's being built right now :) It's exciting, but stressful. And as long as you were just a little conservative with what you can afford, the money situation will work itself out. Give yourselves a couple months to get used to it.
And the debt thing: most adults are in debt for the majority of their lives. If it's house debt, then it's okay. Best not to think about it, especially because in a few years your house will appreciate and you'll be able to sell it for more (hopefully, and most likely) if that's what you want to do.
I just think paying for rent is kind of like flushing money down the toilet: if your house stays the same value over the years, then you've broken even and lived for free for all that time. Not a bad deal!
