New ChatBox Feature Added!

Hi guys,

Well, we've added a cool new feature to the board called a ChatBox. Basically it is like having an IM chat program embedded into the board that works similar to IRC with smilies etc. It's also nice if your workplace blocks chat programs ;)

All you need is to login and chat within your web browser. Let me know what you think!

Here are some basic commands that you might find helpful:


/me your_text : famous command IRC.

/team your text : message which only specific usergroups can see.

/ignore :
/ignore user user_name : ignore shouts from an user by entering its user name. You can unignore shouts from that user later by using the /deignore command.
/ignore uid user_id : ignore shouts from an user by entering its user id. You can unignore shouts from that user later by using the /deignore command.

/deignore :
/deignore user user_name : Unignore shouts from an user, previously ignored by using the /ignore command, by entering its username.
/deignore uid user_id : unignore shouts from an user, previously ignored by using the /ignore command, by entering its id.
/showignore : Open a window which shows all the users you have ignored.

/pm :
/pm user "user_name" : your message : sends a private shout to a specific user by entering its username.
/pm uid user_id your message : sends a private shout to a specific user by entering its id.

how'd you get special text? like when it says you smacked yourself in the head, it's in green with a red star by it.

you need to start the message with "/me" and then put your text :)

see above for more commands... you can ignore people and also message people only in your usergroup (using "/team").... since you're above 1,000 posts only people in the 1,000+ posts club would see it. (i think)

so i can view the chat box archives, but i can't access the chat directly. what am i doing wrong?

once you login there should be a text box above the chatbox for you to type inside.. you aren't seeing that?

Something seems a bit funny for me too. The "MGC Chatbox" menu item doesn't pop up a little window, as I would expect. I am able to see a "View Chatbox Archives" link, which floats to the left of the top of page google ad. When I visit that page, I can see everybody else's shouts, but there's no place for me to post.

Am I dumb, or is something not working for me? I'm using Firefox on Linux, with Java and JS all enabled. I'll try MSIE later, when I get a chance.

heh.. no, you are not dumb, just difficult! :D

this feature IS a hack.. so there is a chance something is incompatible with your browser or maybe some firefox plugin or something. give it a try in IE later and let me know if that works... i'll check in with the plugin author and see if he knows of any issues.

oh wait... you are talking about the top blue menu bar... I just noticed the "MGC Chatbox" link up there... that doesn't work for me either... looks like a bug!

you can't post from the "archives" section... to post you need to go to the main index page http://www.boardtopieces.com/ - at the bottom there should be a box where you can enter text (see above screenshot).

Hey, I finally got around to fixing the "MGC Chatbox" menu itum :)

(it's the menu item at the top of the page between "Calendar" and "New Posts")
