There is this huge fire running rampant all over north San Diego! They've evacuated an area about 15 miles directly south, and another area about 10 miles east (for a separate fire). I am afraid to try to drive to work.... I've packed a bag just in case and got the kitty carriers all ready. Dammit, I'm from the east coast! I'm not prepared for major wildfires!!!

That stinks. I saw it on the news last night. They were advising us in the east bay that our dry season wasn't over and to be especially careful.

Does it affect your property at all?

Be careful.

Nah, so far we're safe (the house is like a 1/2 mile closer to the fire coming from the east, but that one doesn't seem to be getting much new coverage so that's good). But my boss just said not to come in because the roads are closing all over the place and I probably wouldn't be able to get home.

I have a bag packed, I pulled the cats' crates out, and I'm getting ready to go fill up the tank just in case. It smells like smoke outside :( Scary stuff...

Thanks :) I think there has only been one civilian who died so far, not sure about police/fire/military people. I haven't been evacuated and doubt I will be, as the city I live in discontinued is voluntary evacuation for the southern part of the city (and I live in the north). Keeping an eye, but I think I'll live. Getting cabin fever though: I'd like to get out to get to work!!!

I thought this sounded really weird and neat:

A Martin Mars waterbomber is expected to arrive in San Diego County this afternoon to help fight the area's wildfires. The plane, which is based in Canada, is capable of dropping 7,200 gallons of water in a single drop, enough to drench three acres.

The plane also can drop a gel that can coat structures in the path of fires, said San Diego Fire Chief Tracy Jarman.

The plane is amphibious and can land on water .

I wonder whats in the gel? Have you been slimed yet?;)

It pretty much has died down. There has been lots of humidity and light rains all day today. I'm hoping that will help put them all out. My apartment is fine and my townhouse which is still being constructed is doing well. My people are ok. Thankfully, we made it. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that didn't make out so well.
