This is another link that expands on a few of the families/pics and tells you what specfically they bought and for how much. Probably straight out of the book. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5005952

Hmm I didn't notice that, I suppose they look a little out of date. The book is copyrighted 2005, but I can't find when the pics were taken.

the photos aren't that old, i think the book came out last year. at least that is when i bought it after hearing all the radio interviews and seeing a photo essay in ode magazine.
i love the book. the politics of food i find very interesting, and seeing the photos just brings the point home even more. for what looks to be a coffee table book, it is actually a good read. i would recommend it to anyone.

I've seen these photo's before. Where they posted here?
An Interesting note, the more expensive meals were the one's that had more processed foods and packaging.

The $5 a day meals were fresh veggies and meat.

I would disagree that it is cheaper to eat on the West Coast than the East Coast. Just an observation I had.

Even though I've seen them, I think they are neat pictures. Good find! I like read about the politics of food too!
