So I had my first celebrity sighting tonight. I got an invitation to an exclusive movie viewing from the Cuban American Institute. Andy Garcia was there! He is from the godfather, played the bad guy in Ocean's 11 etc.
I have been in Miami for a year and hadn't seen a celebrity yet.
I also watched a cool documentary called Black and Blue. It was about the experience of a Cuban family rafting to America.
Before I moved to Miami, I have to admit that I never gave it much thought, to the Cubans rafting to America. They are pretty ballsy. The guy on the documentary made his own raft out of household supplies, 5 intertubes, and road signs. And made it to America in 3 days. Most rafts take 5-7 days. They estimate that over 60,000 cubans have tried to raft to America. 1 out of 4 people make it.
I have thought it about it some. What are the thoughts of others, rafting to America? Trusting your life to 5 intertubes and man made sails. And how do you guys feel about other countries, like Haiti, that are sent straight back to their country after they make to this country?
(this could have either gone under political topics or movies). If you get the chance, check out the movie. I thought it was cool. Plus it was an open bar. WHooO HooO.
