Is anyone on the board watching the Showtime program Dexter? I searched the board and didn't see any references to it. It's my new favorite show. Also, someone leaked the last two episodes of this second season early on the 'net.

"Tonight's the Night..."

Here was the original commercial Showtime aired for it ad (http://youtube.com/watch?v=1UJz0O2NjOo)

Dexter get's two thumbs up. I've watched all of Season 1, and Starting Season 2 via VOD tonight.

Only other show on tv right now that can compete is also put out by Showtime. It's called Weeds. Excellent cast, and very funny.

Californiacation is not bad, but its third on the list of ongoing shows.

HBO has totally lost it. They used to have all of the good shit, and now Showtime has taken them to the cleaners.

the wire rocks. (though, to be fair, its final episode aired earlier this year. just watching the last season now.)

and they might be making a song of ice and fire into a series. even if they fucked that up it'd probably still be better than almost anything on TV.

HBO is making a fantasy series into a TV show?

That seems far fetched. I love the books, but will it attract a long enough following for people to keep the show going.

My all time favorite show by HBO was Carnivale, but that was canceled prior to getting a good ending written.

Sounds like that's what could happen with Song of Fire and Ice.

Never watched The Wire.

they bought the rights to martin's series and commissioned a pilot, but it hasn't been greenlighted yet. i know the writer's strike delayed a decision on it somewhat. also, the BBC has now gotten involved somehow, i imagine putting up financial support in exchange for airing it over there or something if it does get produced.

the series, if it happens, will devote a season to each novel, and GRRM will write only one episode per season (in order to finish the novels themselves). he worked in television for a decade before publishing game of thrones, so i'm kinda optimistic that he knows what he's getting into and might help keep things on the right path.

last info that's come out is that HBO is deciding between a song of ice and fire and a king arthur series. one'll get done and the other'll get ditched. there's been enough arthur shit done over the years, so i hope they do ASOIAF.

finally, i agree the show'll get canceled long before it's done. just seems like it'd be too damn expensive to do well.
