So I totally don't know how to feel this morning. I am very upset that the chances of a RedBird World Championship is going down the tubes. I suspect we are going to see a completely different Cardinal team next year. We (and the Yankees) discovered that we are too old. Walker will retire (one of my favorite all time players from back to his Colorado days), I suspect we will get rid of Edmunds and Sanders. We will probably keep all our pitchers except Morris. We need to get young and maybe take a step back for a year or two before we can make another run. Pujols and Rolen have long term contracts and I am sure we will re-sign Carpenter at whatever the price.

On to good news, the Broncos won AGAIN!!!!! He He He, Screw off Pats!!!!!! Still not sure how good the Broncs are on the road, but we are virtually unbeatable at home. Two of the last three teams we have beat at home were unbeaten and the third was the defending Champs.

Exactly 10 years to the date of the last Virginia defeat of FSU (one of the greatest days of my life!!!!) Virginia once again defeated Florida State in Charlottesville. FSU was ranked number #4 and had a good chance at an undefeated season and a National Championship bid, and now all that is gone. I got to watch the game on ESPN and I was hoarse by the end, from yelling Fuck you, FSU about 500 times. There is no team (with the possible exception of the Raiders and Chiefs) that I enjoy watching get beat more than the FSU football team. Good Game Bobby!!!! HA!

So am I happy or sad? To be honest, I would give up both wins if it meant the Cards would advance, but since it does not appear to go that way, I guess I should be thankful for all of the good.

no help on the way from the cards' farm system either; it's shit. should be interesting to see how jocketty goes about rebuilding, if y'alls do indeed tear down. suppose i wouldn't bet against him, but it'd be a challenge.

Whoa!!!!!

Did somebody accuse me of not being a diehard fan??????

What are you are referring too? The fact that I worship teams that are outside of my current residence? or The fact that I said that the Red Birds title hopes are slipping down the tubes?

RANT TIME!!!

There are only 3 teams in all of sports that I really care about: Denver Broncos, St. Louis Cardinals, and Virginia Cavaliers. Certainly there are other teams that I have a passing interest in from time to time, but only the three teams listed above can make or break my day.

Denver Broncos:

I have been a Broncos fan for 10 years longer than BB has been alive. My first memory on this planet is Craig Morton throwing a touchdown pass to Rick Upchurch in the 1977 SuperBowl against the Cowboys. The Broncs went on to lose that game and I remember crying myself to sleep. I have been to over 20 Bronco home games in three different decades (including the last time I went where I had to pay $200 a piece for the worst seats in the house.) Not only can I name every single offense lineman currently on the team (only a super fan can name all the o-lineman), but I can still name all of the O-Lineman who played on the team in 1986. I have remained loyal to the Broncos despite 4 humiliating SuperBowl losses, being spoofed on the Simpsons, and having countless boneheads tell me that the Broncos are losers. I worshiped the Broncos for the 10 years I lived in Washington D.C. including the time the Redskins blasted the Broncs in the SuperBowl. I probably had 40 people mock me for my "loser Broncos" and there was not another Bronco fan within 1000 miles to support me. Currently everytime the Broncos lose I get calls from people who don't even care about sports, who call merely to mock me and pile on to my misery because I won't root for the Chiefs. I am in one of the worst possible places for a Bronco fan to live and I still proudly hang on to my love for the Broncs. If I lived on the moon, during football season, my first question to mission control on monday morning would be to find out if the Broncos won. I am sure that it is more likely that I would become a Catholic Priest than it would be for me to give up worshiping the Broncs. Anybody can be a fan when everyone else is a fan of the same team. The true test of a fan is if you still hang with your team when you are living in enemy territory. Also, while we are on the subject of being a true fan, if you root for more than one team in the same league you are not a diehard fan. I know I will take a beating for this, but if you root for both the Rams and Chiefs, you are not a real fan of either one. To proclaim to be a Chiefs fan and then switch your ties to the Rams because the Rams have a better record is complete bullshit. And yes I am talking to all of you who didn't give a damn about the Rams until they made it to the SuperBowl. You can't vote for more than one candidate in an election, and you can't root for more than one team in a league (as long as both are still in contention). So to all the Chiefs/Rams fans, it must be nice to be able to choose who you care about depending on who is the best team. What a cop-out! If the Broncos were 1-15, I still would be a Bronco fan and I still would try to watch all of their games. And to say that they are both close geographically so it is ok to root for both, is also complete bullshit. Think about the people living in New York. Could you imagine somebody being both a Giants and Jets fan? What about a Yankees and Mets fan? Never!!!!! No true fan of the Giants or Yankees would ever root for the Jets or the Mets just because they have a better record and they are in the same city.

Virginia Cavaliers:

I am a graduate of the University so my loyalty to the team is obvious. I paid too much money to ever give up on that horse. Plus some of my best memories in the world took place in the very buildings that those student atheletes are in everyday.

St. Louis Cardinals:

Since I grew up in Colorado and Washington D.C., I never had a hometown baseball team to root for. So I rooted for the Cards. It was Ozzie Smith and Jack Clark who did it to me. And when I moved here it was a perfect opportunity to continue with that. And for the record, I only care about the Cards, not the Rockies, not the Nationals, only the Cards. If you believe that I am a bad fan because I have given up on the Cards winning the World Series, you are wrong. I will believe they have a chance, and will watch every second of every game until they are officially elliminated. At the same time I call it the way I see it. The Cards are old and banged up and it will only get worse until we cycle in some young players. The name on the front of jersey is much more important than the name on the back. Also I would never honestly say something like, "The Cards are going to win the Series", until they acutally do. When you make statements like that all you are doing is pissing off the Sports Gods (which I do believe in) and jinxing your team.

o.k. I'm Done.

Rants are fun!!!!!!!!

I hope we keep Edmonds. As long as he can keep making those diving catches, we can use him.

Walker's gotta go, as much as I love him. He can't do much for us anymore in the shape he's in, although I respect that he plays through pain.

I want to keep Sanders, too. I just like him.

So why was the home plate umpire being such a dick last night? I can understand throwing out LaRussa, but Edmonds barely said anything. I think tossing Edmonds was totally uncalled for.

Also, I wish J-Rod had hit that ball just a little bit more towards center field.

I'm going to cry a whole lot if we lose again tonight.

That's funny, because I did and said the same goddamned thing.

Maybe LOTS of people were controlling baseball with their minds last night.

I kept hoping The Elder Bushes would get hit with a foul ball or something, but no such luck.

but for the record,

i'm a die hard missouri fan.

go rams! go chiefs!
i get the privilege of having two teams to root for and its nice.
and i am loyal to both.
i'm a lifeong chiefs fan, but when 007 and i watched that superbowl clock tick down to all zeroes, it was one of the best days of my life. btw i was on the band wagon once they made it to 6-0.

the chiefs are like my wife. i committed early on and we're staying together even though times are tough.
the rams are like my girlfriend. a little younger and sexier. but its just a fling.

root root root for the home team!

go cards

DP: I am sure that if you asked your wife (kansas city chiefs) how she felt about you having a girlfriend (St. Louis Rams) she would feel hurt and ashamed. You are betraying your loyalty to the Chiefs by going to another team when things get bad. The test of a man's loyalty is not how they treat their wife when things are going well, but how they treat them when things are going poorly.

I know you are a true Chiefs fan, and I also know that you really don't care about the Rams (you know as well as I do that they are one of the softest teams in the history of NFL). I also know that you only root for the Rams because they have actually won a SuperBowl in your lifetime.

What happens when the Chiefs play the Rams? Do you root for both teams? If so, then how can you be truly committed to either one?

rams vs. chiefs

you're right jvo, i'm a chiefs fan all the way. i would want the chiefs to beat stl even if it hurt the rams playoff chances.

its nice that the rams won the super bowl. but i would still enjoy popping open a cool one to watch them even if they didn't.

can you blame me for picking up a girlfriend? the chefs suck almost every year. it kills me to type that.
