Hey Everybody,
Some of you know that I've been expecting a baby with Vanessa for a while now. Those of you who I've not had a chance to talk to about it, well.... Surprise!
Anyway, lots of my friends are on this here forum. I haven't really related the whole story to any of you. Seems like I have to make a proper BTP announcement. So....
It's a boy! We've named him Lazarus. He's very cute, and healthy. Other than being a little sore, mom is doing good too.
Saturday morning we were at home, just getting up, and Vanessa's water broke at 8am. We waited at home until the contractions got really strong, and spaced apart by only three minutes. We went to the hospital around 2pm. The contractions were just getting really painful and serious by the time we got to the hospital. Vanessa requested an epidural for pain relief, but things were moving along so fast, the doctors said it might not even have the chance to take effect.
By 4:30pm, only Vanessa's left side was feeling a little numb, and the pain had been really intense for her since we arrived at the hospital. She was grabbing the bed and screaming "why isn't it working" about the epidural. Around 4:50pm, the doctors said that it was time to push. At 5:00pm, I saw Lazzie's head pop out, then a second later his body slide out, and got my first look at him. Lazzie weighed in at 6lbs, 13oz. It didn't take long for him to turn from bluish purple to pink, and to start crying. Then, he quieted down, and I got to hold his hand, tickle his feet, and play with him for the first time, on the hospital baby warming table.
Pretty fast for a first time mom! All of the nurses at the hospital were gossiping about how quickly Vanessa's delivery went. After the birth, all of the grandparents were there. Later that evening, they moved us from the birthing room to the maternity ward, where we stayed for another two days. Our stay at the hospital was actually pretty good and comfortable, especially considering it was a hospital, and the nurses were waking Lazzie up at all hours of the day and night for tests and stuff.
It's a little early to say which of us he looks like. He's pretty round and fat like all babies are. We're relieved that things went so well though, and it's fun to finally be able to meet him. He's very mellow, sleeps a lot, and cries only after giving us fair warning with a grumpy face that he's hungry. He eats and poops constantly around the clock.
It's weird to be a new parent. It's like joining some sort of new club, or moving from being a teenager to adult. There's tons of new things to worry about, but it's exciting too. This is day three for us.
