So, who are our smokers in here? :)
I haven't had a cigarette in 3 days, and I think I'd like to keep it that way. Of course the cravings haven't started yet.
Used to smoke a pack (or more) a day, but quit.
Never felt better, and save at least $110 a month.

I try to confine my smoking to weekends and in bars, but lately I've been going out a lot so I've been smoking more than I should.
I've always smoked Camel Lights.
Good job LH. It seems to me that every time I've quit, Day #4 is the worst.
Hang in there.

Thanks! I tried this a few weeks ago and made it to day 4, which I agree is the absolute worst cravings-wise. Hopefully, I can last through tomorrow while knowing I have a full pack of Parliaments at home. Look for some colorful posts from me tomorrow afternoon. :)

Nice going 007. How long ago and what was your secret? And do you still crave them while out at bars etc?

I don't crave them a bit anymore. I quit February 2004. I just set a date (the day after the Super Bowl) & never smoked again.

mmm... smoking..
not counting what I bum from friends when I'm in the mood, I smoke a pack or 2 a year...
I love the feeling of starting smoking... the euphoria, the slight nausea.. but I drop it when it stops being fun and starts being just something to do.
I used to smoke all the time... right out of high school/early college. Was a big fan of Camel Reds. Then, at university, I lived with this amazing girl called Tara. Our house was a half-way house for wayward and deformed animals. She was a drug dealer. She was a stripper/telemarketer. She would do a lot of crack, get a job, work 3 days (straight) and quit when she crashed. So, she smoked like 2 cases of Walmart Brand cigarettes a day or something rediculous like that. If I would leave my cigarettes at home (even just laying in my room) I would come home to one cigarette. It would matter how many were in the pack. There would be one when I got home. I wasn't about to smoke poor quality product and I wasn't going to fund Tara's habit, so I quit. (for those who are curious, I quit cold turkey. Never had the cravings. ...but then I don't seem to get addicted to anything except men. Don't date me, guys... I'll leech on to you and do crazy things to win your affections!)
Since then I enjoy the intermittent smoke and will pick up a pack for the full effect usually in the fall. I love the brisk taste of menthols and the cooling fall air.
I've always been a camel boy until recently. I have loved the reds, jades and turkish variations, each in their own special way... recently switched to american spirits, tho.
My dad smoked for 40 years. He smoked Salems. He made a deal with me at a very young age that if I would quit sucking my thumb, he'd quit smoking. I quit my habit, he didn't quit his.
He had to have a pretty invasive surgery on his spine about 10 years ago and his doctor told him he wouldn't operate if he continued to smoke (invasive wounds heal better when you don't smoke). The doctor was really kind and said he would recomend someone else if dad didn't want to quit. Dad wanted this doctor because "he was the best," so he quit. ... again, cold turkey. Through "the strength of god" he never went back.

I remember Tara.
That picture is great, but it doesn't really capture the desperate hopelessness that I associate with her. I remember you couldn't move six inches in her house without stepping on a kitten or a pile of kitten shit.

I always set a date when I quit... if I do that I can quit for a couple months.
I went two months recently, from August 1st to September 30th. Now I have set a new date for November 1st to try again.
Wine and beer always brings me back... not even one puff is good enough, gotta have more and then I'm off the wagon again (or is it ON the wagon? I always get that confused)

After 10 yrs. of smoking and 4 yrs of trying, I quit for good. The thing that absolutely helped me the most; and lordy, did i love smoking, was this website: www.whyquit.com. It is seperated into 3 sections: the scary section (with pics - be prepared), educational section, and support/chat section. I skimmed through them but really found the info. in the educational section to be the most helpful. They recommend the "educated cold turkey" method, which is what i did.
good luck.

I quit again on Saturday... Goody Simpson is right about that website.
But that scary section is fucked up. It's just awful... which maybe what someone needs to kick into gear is to see death.
