For those of you not familiar with this story, Paige Laurie, one of the Wal-Mart heiresses whose family lives in Columbia and owns the St. Louis Blues, was accused of plagiarism last year when it was revealed on 20/20 that she paid another student a ton of money to do all her homework for the 3 1/2 years she was in school at USC. They recently made her give her diploma back (or rather, she "voluntarily surrendered her degree"--yeah, right) after a lengthy investigation.
The new MU basketball arena that her parents paid for had been named after her: Paige Sports Arena. This pissed a lot of people off. Soon after it was revealed that she had been cheating, people began calling it "Plaige Sports Arena." The name was quickly changed to Mizzou Arena.
I like this quote the best:
"Laurie still has a namesake at MU - the E. Paige Laurie Program in Equine Lameness."
I know it's a legitimate veterinary term, but it still makes me giggle.
