go sox
Yuck!!!!
Not sure who to root for. It is so difficult for me to root for an AL team, since AL teams are all card carrying members of the Nazi party.
Also tough to root for the team that just elliminated my Cards.
Hmmmm.
Guess I gotta go with the Astros. NL Central has to represent. At least if Houston wins we will know that we were beat by the best team. Small consolation, but I can't root for an AL team. I suppose I don't really care all that much. Hope the games are good.

i agree with you JVO...i despise the AL. DH...is for pansies! I gotta root NL and besides. This will only go to prove that our division which was mocked as being weak is nothing but the best in baseball besides the NL East. Sorry Chi Sox fans...

same was said of the AL central for much of the season.
and yeah, there's nothing more inspiring in sports than watching a pitcher try and hit. that shit's about as interesting as watching me try to tackle someone.
and don't no mofuckas get started about a double switch. it's a simple move; doesn't add that much strategy to the game.

ok...here's where i do have respect for the Chi Sox. At least they do play small ball fairly well. I respected both the Sox and the Angels for that reason. They at least played baseball unlike most AL teams which merely hack and smash hoping for a 3 run homer. Strategy man! That's the NL. Double switch...well..its one such move.
Anyways...I'm fine with the Sox. I'm quite indifferent about who wins. However, I'm an NL man, but if its the Sox, whatever.
wow, a world series not far from my house this weekend...
go sox! i wanna see what it's like to live in a city that wins the whole shebang! betcha there will be riots!
Having the DH completely changes the game. Not only do you not have double switches but you almost never have:
Sacrifice Bunts
Squeeze Plays
Intential Walks
Pinch Runners
Pinch Hitters
Hit and Runs
Stolen Bases
Pay backs for hit by pitch
Or Manager's who have to think what so ever.
Once the lineup card is filled out, an AL Manager doesn't even need to pay attention. Also there is no thought given to replacing a tired/ineffective pitcher. You don't have to worry about when they hit next, or do you make a double switch, and if you do what player do they switch with, and who will replace them, and how do they match up with the opposing pitcher, or the opposing bull pen, or how good are they in the field. It is also much much easier to determine who will be on the playoff roster because you don't have to worry about bench players nearly as often. AL baseball compared to NL baseball is like checkers vs. chess.
Still I agree with Poof that the Chi Sox are a good team (whatever their league) because they can score with long or short ball, and they have fantastic pitching. So I don't have anything against the Chi Sox, and if they win that is great, but I am not going to root for an AL team.

drastic oversimplifications.
anyone who's watched the chisox all year--and props to y'alls showin respect to the sox--knows they do most of those things with regularity. as do the angels and a few other AL teams. never mind that, statistically, tactics like sac bunts, squeeze plays, and stolen bases are frequently counterproductive and overused. i suppose y'alls are saying they add texture to the game, and i can agree with that sentiment.
further, retaliations for HPB do happen; they just don't happen directly to the pitcher. as a matter of strategy, though, that makes no difference--what matters is that they occur as often as in the national league. not to mention that's a minute part of the game.
finally, i have a soft spot for the argument that the DH is actually the purer form of the game on the grounds that in baseball's early decades, there wasn't so much specialization and pitchers actually could hit. i don't really buy the argument, but it's fun to consider.
the NL game is slightly more nuanced, i'll give you that, and if i hadn't grown up a chisox fan i'm sure i'd prefer it. but comparing the difference to chess vs checkers is a little much.
peace.
I agree that there are a handful of AL teams that have an NL style (including the Chi Sox). I just hate the DH so much that it is difficult for me to get around. There was a poll the other day on a National Radio Show (Dan Patrick) that asked, "If you could change one thing about sports (on the field) what would it be?" The number one vote getter, and my answer, was to elliminate the DH. Fun question to ponder though. A close second for me would be to change/scrap the idiotic overtime system in college football. Also the BCS is one of the worst things in the history of sports.
Still, I totally respect Chi Sox fans, I know you have had a huge wait and I hope it pays off for you.
Question to Chicago peeps: What is the general feelings of the Cubs fans? Are they rooting for the Chi Sox? Just wondering.

even though we're going to the WS, people around the north side and north suburbs still treat me like a little leper stepchild when i wear my chisox gear out.
...and i hope it stays that way.
Thanks Canseco!
I was hoping that the Cubs fans would not be jumping on the bandwagon.

the sport which is played in the american league is similar to, but not baseball.
in baseball, 9 fielders play defense. and then they all take thier turn to bat.
i agree with everything jvo said about the american league. its a farce. its a mockery.
but, i hope the sox sweep those texas fuckers.
i hope biggio and bagwell drop dead on the field. i hope all of the astros die horrible, painful deaths. except roy oswalt. i hope the cards sign him in the off season.
