this would be the worst thing that ever happened to chicago. i've been to two cities now where the ban was in place and it SUCKED.
and here's a thought to that waitress bitch complaining in the article: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT , GET ANOTHER FUCKING JOB YOU WHORE!
whew. that escalated really fast.
I always figured that the long room was 'Very Unhealthy'.

Above: Normal city dwellers lung.
Note black specks throughout indicative of carbon deposits from pollution.
Compare this to the lung below.

Smokers lung with cancer. White area on top is the cancer, this is what killed the person. The blackened area is just the deposit of tars that all smokers paint into their lungs with every puff they take.

i lived in several cities with smoking bans. two month--top--after the first no-smoking day and no one even thinks about it again. they step outside. it's just as easy. and it's about choice and respect as well as on-job safety.
and as far as places losing business, please. alcohol is still addictive and legal in bars. you might lose some smokers with a ban, but pea-soup thick smoke in bars also made me take business elsewhere. i don't need to smell like shit from standing 3 minutes in a bar.
which is not to say that these crazy lefty ideas about "job safety" are not without a personal connection for me. just the other day i was telling all my bitch penpals in SE asia to fucking get another fucking job if they don't like being paid 10cents/5units of wal-mart sold t-shirts or nike shoes; and i also told my bitch friends who work in production houses with toxic chemicals that they, too, should get another fucking job and quit bitching if their boss won't provide respirators, ventilation and safety equipment. it's a boss's world, after all, i told their bitch asses. you should be grateful for the money! jobs are just jumping out to get you if you put out a little effort, i further advised.

So when are they supposed to vote on the smoking ban, this Thursday? That guy in the article sounded pretty confident it was going to pass this time. I mean, come on... when they're saying stuff like:
"Pollution was so bad in one room of one tavern, employees would be breathing air the Environmental Protection Agency deems "hazardous" -- the EPA's worst category that's rarely seen these days except in the event of forest fires or volcanic eruptions."

i think it's just in committee thursday. some people seem to think that it won't go through this time, but it will go through next time. it's really just a matter of time.

I have mixed feelings on the issue. I am not a smoker and don't particularly enjoy being engulfed with smoke. Its just the smokers, trying to make everyone ingest their smoke, or the non-smokers trying to ban the smokers everywhere. Two extremes.
Where is the middle ground?

As a smoker, I don't like the idea of non-smoking establishments, but in the end it would be better for everybody. Non-smokers wouldn't have to deal with smoke, and smokers would be forced not to pollute our bodies for the hour or two we're in a bar. It sucks, and you're doing it against your choice, but it's good for you. Also, it will encourage people to quit.
whyquit.com said that one huge reason people fail when trying to quit is because they have a lot of associations with smoking, and drinking alcohol is one of them. If you can learn to not smoke when you're drinking, you have a better chance of quitting.

Umm. . .did you know that most smokers dont die of lung cancer? Its heart disease, and it's not all because of the smoke.
You ever ask the question, "Out of 100 smokers, how many will die of smoking related causes?"
Well the answer depends on what country you live in. (http://www.kidon.com/smoke/percentages.htm)
And since there are so many other ways you can die in this world, the rate is astonishingly low. (men in the US in the 1990's = 85.9 / 10,000 smokers)
Considering there are millions of smokers, thats a huge risk. . but . .the level of risk for a healthy adult has been exaggerated for some time now. Pictures like the ones they post below are meant to shock and give a knee jerk reaction that probably doesn't lead to long term quitting. . .
Anyways if you smoke. . you probably won't die of lung cancer, you're heart will just give out. . .like most americans.
Lets go to mcdonalds!
