Legend of Zelda

So I'm going through and playing some older video games that I missed the boat on, in an effort to make myself a more well-rounded gamer. :huh:

First up--I'm starting with Legend of Zelda (the original) and working my way through all the chronicles. Here are my thoughts on the original Legend of Zelda.

Game control is not good. Link runs around popping his little sword out at stuff, and the checkerboard way he can only strike forward, down, sideways, but never diagonal has led to much cursing. I seem to recall that on 'Tendo, you could swing the sword around in a little circle, but I'm using a GameCube, so maybe something changed in translation.

Something I had forgotten about this game is how unintentionally funny the messages can be. At one point they spell "PENNINSULA", and then there's my second favorite message ever, "DODOGO DISLIKES SMOKE." (My first favorite will always be Castlevania's "You now possess Dracula's rib!")

I'll keep you updated as I plunder dungeons and gather the Triforce of Wisdom. As I played last night, I realized that like all Nintendo games, it gets easier when drunk.

i replayed zelda a few years ago. i was somewhat frightened by the fact that i still remembered which bushes to burn down to find secret caves.... or the secret path through the forgotten forest.

i think the spin attack was from the super nintendo version...

I've been playing through the Zelda Wii game a bit and it's pretty fun! I like swinging the controller around slashing down the bad guys, hahah! I also just got the Tornado boomerang thing and enjoy kicking everyone's ass with that. The slingshot is a bit weird to control.. you have to point it at the screen and aim, cool I suppose.

And yeah, it's weird thinking I basically grew up with this franchise :)

I am mostly through Zelda Windwaker which is one of the more droll in the series... the control is good and I like the dungeons however I've spent hours bobbing around on that crappy little boat... cripes!

I do want Twilight Princess but I just bought 3 games I have to work through.. with the money I spent I could have splurged and got the game i actually wanted (T.P.) but instead I thought I needed Alien Homonid, Contra and the new chapter of FF7
