I've been, personally, very pleased with most of the cabinet selections. Geithner for Treasury Sec, Summers for NEC, Rahm for Chief of Staff, Clinton possibly for Secretary of State, Richardson (possibly... though has been described as Pre-mature) for Commerce, but during a weekend debate with JVO, it made me wonder, what do the hardcore Obama supporters think about it? I'm not trying to be an ass on this one, looking for honest opinions.

Here's my take:

For a man preaching about change, he sure has appointed (or attempted to appoint) people with years of Washington experience and the baggage and personal agendas they all bring with them.

It was described as a cabinet of giant egos and strong personalities (Meet the Press) Sunday. As with what happens with other "Dream Teams", there is more arguing on who's on first, rather than anything getting done.

So my question to the board is 1) do you like the experienced individuals being appointed, or were you hoping for a change from the norm with some qualified rookies?; 2) Did you think that is what you were voting for?

It's currently shaping up to look like Bill Clinton Cabinet Part III. For a guy that wanted to vote for Hilary in the first place, that sounds great to me.

I'm also pleased with the recent stance Pelosi and her goons have taken with the auto makers. Apparently, the Union's hold on the Dems isnt as strong as they thought.

i'm curious who will be secretary of agriculture. i think that will be a really important appoitment. past governor of iowa vilsack was being talked about, but not by the obama people and now vilsack is saying he won't do it and wasn't offered. which i am thrilled about becasue he is in too deep with agribusiness gmo petrochemical types for my taste.
also i am curious about the newly created technology cabinet position. this could really set a precedent in a good way. and i'm glad this particular conversation can be had at this level. i have no idea who would be a good fit for it though.
i have been fine with the appointments so far. i would have been surprised if a lot of fresh faces had popped up. we are in some serious straights around here and i think some experience is needed. but don't forget that this is obama's administration and he will be the one who finally directs it. so i don't think it will necessarily be a clinton redux.

I think instead of "change" we're just going to have to settle for "not as fucked as we otherwise might be", at least for now. I'm not crazy about these picks, I think they're sort of centrist and status-quo. But, I'm agreed that now is not the time to do anything radical.

I'm hoping he goes for experience and unity with Republicans until we get through this mess, then shakes things up a bit after we're in the clear. Remember, the cabinet isn't forever. He can switch members out at any time. Something to look forward in the second term?
